I’d say you have a pretty good shot. The GPA might be a challenge, but you can still overturn it with a good personal statement. Retake the SAT if you feel you can do better.

^my school has cal scholarship fed… o.o

Decent shot. Good luck!

Yeah my gpa is pretty low but its an upwards trend from freshman year. If my grandmother wasn’t in the hospital last trimester it would have been much higher guaranteed. By the way, i feel like my story might seem like any ordinary made up sob story and college counselors might not believe it. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for replying once again.

@Yuhiko Jay: Scholarship? If it’s the CSF I know, it’s the tutoring program where you can join and become a CSF tutor and others will request tutors, is it not?

@OP: I wrote a “sob” story for the UC’s too. Looking at the results, I’d say it was a pretty successful one.

The trick is to make it extremely vivid (Add a lot of details and how you felt. Your emotions are a powerful thing. Reveal those to them). But in the midst of all this struggle and hardship, tell them how you became stronger because of this. Schools don’t want an emotionally broken person. They want a strong, independent person, capable of dealing with hardships and turning them into driven endeavors.

Talk about how your grandmother’s case made you a stronger student and person overall. Remember to share everything you can and don’t be scared to leave yourself out vulnerable to them.

^lol our schoos is volunteer… tutoring is for AVID haha
