Tell me what I should do! Or if I forgot anything, just let me know!

I also was told I should take subject tests... what are the ones you'd recommend for this major?

Just so you know, while Columbia has arguably the best graduate program for journalism, they do not offer it as an undergraduate major. Here’s a list of their majors: [Areas of Study | Columbia University Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/college/areas.php)

Columbia requires two SAT IIs for admission, I’m planning on majoring in English and took the U.S. history and literature exams. You’ll want an SAT score in the range of 2250+, and you might want to play up your ECs in your essays - you’ve got depth, but a lot of kids applying to school in NYC have similar ECs. good luck.

yeah I got that Subject test response from others as well, I do plan on taking them… Im only a sophomore so I have time

Chances are very very low. Unless you are ranked in the top ~3 in the class. And you want a ~2250 or higher.

gpas pretty up there but you need like a 2250 or 2300 to really have a shot…unless you have legacy or something

Hey, Im really interested in applying to Swarthmore, UC Berkeley, NYU Stern, Georgetown, UM College Park, Washington and Lee, Pomona, Claremont McKena (probably ED Swarthmore or Georgetown)

SATs: 2020
ACTs: 33 probably sending this one

Since you are NOT asking for chances to Columbia, this forum is absolutely NOT the place you should be posting this chance thread. Not appropriate. Please go either to the specific school forums, or to the general “Chance” thread. Thank you.

I have to disagree with cortana431 about needing to be in the top 3 in one’s class. If one has excellent EC’s, top 10-15% could be sufficient. I do think the OP’s EC’s look decent, with a fair amount of commitment to each, and the SAT score is not bad. But being from the Boston area doesn’t help. So I would say there is somewhat of a chance, but the OP should definitely apply to other schools for safeties.

^^Agreed, being in the top 3 is just ridiculous, and I know people personally who have been accepted to Columbia, Harvard, MIT, and other schools by being in the top 10%.

Haha just so you know you know, I’m from Southern Fairfield County in CT, not Boston I’m just a diehard Red Sox, my high school is one of
the top public schools in the state

^^we’ll still kill you :)
