Would visiting the school impact my chances? I am very interested but it is a long way to visit and I am not looking at any other schools in the area.

Visiting the school will not impact your chances, but the campus is one of a kind and you really can’t get a sense of the culture without visiting. Sounds like you have a chance.

If I were to be accepted, I would definitely visit before I committed to anything. I’d love to come visit anyway but it is just a really long trip.

How serious are you about music? If you are a serious musician you should arrange to take a trial lesson with someone in the music department. This could be a “hook” for you.

I’m not particularly serious about music. I mean, I’m good and I enjoy it but I’m not great. I don’t really stand out. I probably won’t play in college.

What was the published article? Were you lead author or one of the folks in the middle of the pack? Where was it published? Where did you do physics research? --the Cavendish (now that would be cool…).

What do you want to study?

The essays matter much more than you would think-- esp as there are no evaluative interviews-- look over the prompt and think about what you want to write.

Williams is unique–you will be in the Purple Bubble–some will love that but for some it will be claustrophobic – even though it is not crowded–do you want such a tight knit community or someplace that will give you more anonymity? In your application let it be known that you know what makes a Williams education/experience unique and how you will thrive–and more importantly–what you will bring TO the College. That matters almost as much as great boards or rank in class (not as much, of course, but it matters, exp as Williams gets more and more applications and therefore becomes even more selective.

Finally-- the reason an earlier poster said visit before you apply is that Williams takes about 40% of the class ED (and that is early DECISION not ACTION) so if you want Williams you have to commit–but Williams wants those who want it…
