Chance me please!!!

Hi, I'm an incoming senior and would like to apply to Rutgers. (out of state)

Major: Computer Science

SAT I: 1810 ( CR 460, M 730, W 620 ); may retake

SAT II: MATH 2 (780), CHEM (710)

ACT: 27 ( ENG 26, M 35, CR 22, SCIENCE 25, ENG/ESSAY 26, ESSAY (9) ) awaiting june score

GPA (10/11): 3.54 (uw) , 3.875 (w, assuming cutoff is 8 extra points)

AP/HONORS (10/11): English 10 H, PRE-Calc (h), calc a (h), dev. of civ. (h), AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus B/C, AP Computer Science

AP/HONORS (12) : AP SPANISH LITERATURE, AP STATISTICS, AP PHYSICS C

Extracurriculars: Solar Cup, Tennis Team, Applied Engineering Club, Leo Club, Robotics Club/Team

What should I do to help my APP and what are my chances to get into CS Major in Rutgers?

PLEASE give me your opinion as I currently fear of whether i will get into this colleges!!!

Chance me for Rutgers!!

you are in before you even applied

how positive are you about this ?
what makes u think so that i am definitely in because I am really worried about getting into any college?

Your CR score is low compared to your math. I think you need to review the reading section and see where you are making mistakes, or get a tutor just for the reading section in order to bring that up a bit. If you do that, you will be fine. (and I’m not saying you won’t get in with those grades, but I think you could improve that score).

I’m afraid creacher is misinformed.

As rualum stated, your CR score is very low compared to the average. Many schools look heavily at math and CR, and not so much on writing; in other words, they consider your SAT score out of both 1600 (math + CR) and 2400 (all sections). Since your GPA isn’t very stellar, I would definitely retake the SAT and bring up your CR score.

Rutgers does not consider your SAT II scores or recommendation letters (I wish I would have known this before I applied.)

^^^ sixflags is actually correct, I did notice that CR score, but I am assuming that you wont send those scores and send the ACT scores. With your SAT scores you might not make it to SAS, and mind you, as a side note that rutgers is ranked top 25 in computer sciences, and the minimum grade you can get in the classes is a C to major. Getting in might be easy but staying in is not.

To be honest, I think you will make it in. I had slightly lower stats, and applied to SAS as well for Computer Science and got in. I do agree that CR is low, at the very worst you want all stats to be in the high 500s-600s (especially Math/CR).

I’m confident you will get in, so I will give you some advice for Comp Sci. Intro to Comp Sci (CS111) should be fairly easy if you legit know what you are doing. If you’re new to programming and logic, it’s going to be extremely hard unless you seriously keep up and just understand the material. If you have some experience, the class can still be hard because of the logic involved.

If you get Tjiang, he’s a great professor, make sure to go to his office hours for help. Pay well attention to Big O when he teaches it, as you move up in your courses, it becomes a big factor of your grade and homework.

I came in slightly experienced and very determined, but realized this does not make me happy, so I switched. Best of luck!

i think you would make it in, just apply real early. Also, retaking won’t hurt you because rutgers takes best score of each category. For example you said you got a 730 M but you retake and you get a 700, rutgers will take 730 and vice versa for the CR.

If i were you i would spend like an hr a day just reading/testing CR questions from Kaplan book or barons and refreshing in math every so often. Take the SAT some time in october since you can apply and also put you are retaking SAT, which allows you to get some time. For example, lets say you got rejected just by those scores and you indicated that you are retaking, then if they reject you first, they will put in process which basically will let them re-check your scores to make a final decision.

Source:I did this for Rutgers Pharmacy(Brother recommened me to apply since he was in the program) but i chose Engineering because that was my first choice and i got in.

Don’t worry about it man. I got into (not deffered or waitlisted, but got accepted) School of Engineering on Regular Admissions (which is not early decision, and is a more competitive pool) and my SATs were 1670, when the average was around 1820 for School of Engineering. Plus my UW rank was like top 25% or a little less, and W was around 17%. I knew no one who worked at Rutgers, if that makes you feel better too.

I don’t even think you’d need to take the SATs over either. If you apply during Early Decision, you’ll get in with a 95% chance, because nothing is ever a 100%. Plus Early Decision at Rutgers is non-binding so you’ll go in to that process not swearing that you’ll go in if you’re accepted. If I were you, I’d actually move my standards a little higher and look at other schools too.

You might want to take the CR over again though. Just so you can test out of the English portion of the placement test next year too. You’re in good standings, and if Rutgers is your first choice, take it easy your last year (but not too easy) and good luck next year.

I think you have a good chance. Like most people said, maybe you should consider retaking the SAT. If Rutgers is your number one school, you could apply Early Decision. Just remember this is binding. If its not your number one, just remember to apply early.

You have a great chance, I just want to reiterate that, but I won’t expand since everyone else has already done an awesome job explaining. I agree with the SAT advice especially though.
