Chance me please!!!

Hi, I'm an incoming senior and would like to apply to UCSD.

Major: Computer Science with specialization in Bioinformatics

ACT (Feb 2012): 27 ( ENG 26, M 35, CR 22, SCIENCE 25, ENG/ESSAY 26, ESSAY (9) ) most likely September retake

SAT I: 1810 ( CR 460, M 730, W 620 ); may retake

SAT II: MATH 2 (780), CHEM (710), Bio (670)

GPA (10/11): 3.54 (uw) , 3.875 (w, assuming cutoff is 8 extra points)

AP/HONORS (10/11): English 10 H, PRE-Calc (h), calc a (h), dev. of civ. (h), AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus B/C, AP Computer Science

What should I do to help my APP and what are my chances to get into UCSD?

I would say try to get your SAT above 2100 because your gpa is a bit low.
Like my friend had a little better gpa than you but he got into Computer Engineering with a really good SAT scores.

And don’t forget about the hook on your essay.
The summer before, I went to the library and got some books on examples of great app essays. Read them and you’ll have some ideas of what to write.

I am currently and incoming freshman taking Comp Sci.
Let me tell you, I definitely do not fit the cap for comp sci.
I mainly got A’s and B’s in honors and AP classes, but my SAT was about 1650 and my ACT was 24. My overall weighted GPA was 4.5. I got waitlisted from Davis, accepted into Irvine, rejected to Santa Barbara. I’m not the brightest of the bunch, but I do try hard.

So honestly, you can take all these amazing courses and get awesome grades, but there’s so many factors taken into consideration. For me, it was just luck getting into San Diego. I believe I only got in because I’m a female, and there’s a lack of female comp sci engineers.

My classmate who was in the top 10 of our class got rejected from SD, surprisingly. So you just never know!

Keep up the good work though!

Good luck!
