My essays should be pretty good. I have been told I am a good writer.
Schools I am thinking of applying to:
Temple
Drexel
St. Joseph’s
LaSalle
Lehigh (might as well throw a reach school in)
Pittsburgh
NYU (another reach school)

yayalec you can check out Temple’s freshman profile here. Comparing your “stats” to the freshman profile your SAT scores look fine (above average) but your GPA is below average. Is your weighted GPA higher than 3.0? At Temple’s admissions presentation they said they are looking for 3.2 and above. http://www.temple.edu/ir/factbook/documents/2011_Fall_Student_Profile-Final.pdf</a> I don’t think Temple pays that much attention to the essays etc admissions are pretty much numbers based.

Pitt is probably a “reach” for you as they are usually looking for at least a 600 on the Math portion of the SAT but they will look at other parts of your application like your essays, recommendations etc which could help you. If you are hoping for Pitt I’d suggest trying the SATs again this fall and see if you can improve the math score.

Colleges also like to see the “rigor” of your high school program so if you have a B average but are taking harder courses like honors/AP level that will be considered. Also if your B average reflects a slow start with a strong upward trend some schools will also take that into account.

For private schools like LaSalle and St. Joe’s they will probably look at your essays and extracurriculars and it could help to go and interview to express your interest.

Admissions at Lehigh and NYU are super-competitive I’d call those “super-reach”

Good luck.
