Maryland only looks at CR + M, so need to consider your SAT score with just those two sections and see the stated range below. Your GPA and rank are on the low side for UMDCP. If you are OOS, I don’t think your chances are all that great. If anything, you might get Freshman Connection. If you are IS, your chances are better, but still a tough call. I noted your participation at engineering camps…did you receive college credit and get graded? If so, and you earned A’s, that should help. However, fwiw, I think you are a better match for UConn or Stevens. FYI, my personal definition of a match is being in the high range of SAT scores, or above them.

Per the school website:
The admitted freshman students have a strong A-/B+ or better average in their high school coursework and enrolled in the most challenging courses available to them including honors, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses.

For Fall 2012, students admitted to the University of Maryland have an average (weighted) GPA of 4.11 and the middle 50% of SAT scores ranged from 1250 to 1400, and between 28-32 on the ACT. As a result 25% of the admitted students scored below a 1250 on the SAT and 25% scored above a 1400.

Please bear in mind that my opinion is just that, a personal opinion. You should NOT let me dissuade you from applying, because the admissions office is the ONLY opinion that counts! Your best shot for admission is applying by the Nov 1st deadline. Wishing you all the best.

Middle of the road SAT for UMCP was about 1300 (CR+MATH). Assuming everything was equal, you’re not too far off.

You might be slightly on the low end, but if you apply early, interview, and communicate, I’ve heard that will optimize your chances. It has been my brief experience so far that admissions people want to know you want their school. And being able to put a face to a name makes it a bit more personal… IMHO.

Thanks for all the input guys! Maryland is my reach school but I really hope I get in since I’m writing two essays for them and their campus is beautiful! Even though my stats are low, they still have to accept 25% of the applicants under the 50% range, right?
