GPA: 92 (my school doesn't do it on a 4-point scale)

Tons of ECs, service hours, and leadership positions, and solid letters of recommendation.

Throughout high school, I've only taken one AP (Spanish) and four honors classes (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Spanish III), but I go to a good high school with a very good reputation, that is very well-known.

Additional:
National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Dean's Award, Honor Roll

Thank you for your input. My sister got in with about the same GPA and lower SAT scores, but that was years ago so things have changed a little. I just wish writing was weighted more.

Your GPA is 3.7 unweighted, btw. A 95 is a 4.0, 90 3.5, 85 3.0, and so on. I’d say you’ll probably get in. Your weak point would definitely be your SATs though.

Congrats!! That is terrific. It is even more of a mystery that another poster, with higher stats, was waitlisted – there is no figuring college admissions these days, I guess!

That’s great and very best of luck! My S was wait listed with an ACT composite of 30, an 84.5 ( UW) avg with all honors and 2 APs prior to senior year. Excellent EC and recs. I guess Fordham has a non holistic view with GPA cut offs .

My D was waitlisted with a 3.6 UW and an 1860 SAT. She had 5 AP’s and all honors prior to her senior year. She was finished with her HS classes so she’s taking 15 credits through SUNY offered through ours and a neighboring HS and has a 3.9 GPA. Her EC’s are very strong.

It’s no big deal, she’s already sent in the form to have herself removed from the list. She had already picked her college (Hi My3Daughters, we spoke on another thread).

What gets me though is Fordham was listed as a strong match. We attended a local event and the Open House at Rose Hill. I was born and raised in the Bronx just 4 blocks from the campus (not Belmont or Arthur Aves.). I think we demonstrated interest and Fordham pursued my daughter with a ton of mail, email and the free application. We spoke to people at the Open House and she was told she was a strong candidate . . . Not sure why they put so much effort in to having kids apply only to turn them away. There are plenty of people who are extremely passionate about Fordham, seems to me they should concentrate on those students and not just look to increase their application numbers.

This was our first experience and we’ll know for next time to not take anything for granted.

Fordham might be a little bit of a stretch for you. Your SAT score is o.k. but you would really need some great ECs and other stuff to make up for it. With that said, you still have decent chance and could be waitlisted.

Thanks. Unfortunately I didn’t get into Stony Brook, which was where I really wanted to go. And I know people with lower stats than me that got in, so I guess it works that way for most people!

SO interesting. My D got in EA from a Catholic school in Northern Virginia with 1210 and 1800. 590-R, 620-M, 590-W and only got $6300! 3.7 GPA, Volleyball 4 years, theatre 4 years, Girl Scouts, tons of service and leadership, UVA writers Workshop. And she got into Stony Brook. Sometimes I think your intended major might have an effect. She wants anthropology/archaeology, which is a bit uncommon.
