Okay. I promised myself I wouldn't do this, but here I am. I'm so stressed out, I have no support from anyone around me and I barely know how to navigate this process. I have a bunch of schools I've applied/will apply Sunday to but I'm TERRIFIED of getting rejected from all of them, so yeah. I'm a gap year student, btw, if that makes a difference.
Here goes.
GPA: 3.90 uw 4.51 w
Rank: Top 10%
ACT: 31 (E 31, M 29, R 36, S 28) I plan to retake this, but I may not have the money to.
I never took the SAT
SAT IIs: 650 Math II, 700 on both Bio E and World History I would like to retake Bio and Math II (not WH obviously), but, once more, I may not be able to afford it. :/
Essays: Pretty good. I wrote about my passion for helping the poor because I can relate so strongly to their plights.
Counselor rec: Okay, I guess.
Teacher recs: Seemed VERY receptive to writing them. One from a science teacher and one from an English teacher. The latter said she'd write a glowing rec!
School type: #2 in the state, public magnet, sent about four kids to Ivies from my c/o 2012
ECs: Not a lot. Fwiw, I wasn't able to be in a lot because of my mom's religion. Had I tried to participate in ECs on Sabbath, she would have kicked me out of wherever we were living (already tried). I had one academic comp senior year, book club for two years, flute for three years, 150-200 volunteer hours, spent A LOT of time on my mom's daycare business senior year that fell through because we were unjustly evicted a couple days before Christmas and were homeless, anime club for two years, practiced piano for a year. That's about it. I also spent lots of time searching for places to live, employment and transportation.
Income: >10,000/yr for quite a while. My mom isn't lazy and neither am I. It's just that where we were living while I was in hs didn't have many employment options. She was a substitute teacher, but was not consistently called in for work.
Hooks: I'm an African American female going for a STEM major. My test scores may not reflect this, but I ALWAYS got As in my science classes. Usually 97+ with the exception of an A- in AP Chem & Honors Bio.

I took five APs junior year and six senior year (World History [5], English Lang [5], USH [5], Chemistry, Calculus, Biology, Environmental Science, European History, Psychology, Eng Lit and Statistics). I didn't take that many test because I couldn't afford them.
