Chance Me Please!!

I'm a junior at a high school in California. My current UW GPA is a 3.47 but should be at about a 3.53-57 by the time I apply. I got a 27 the first time I took my ACT and am taking it again in February. I play varsity basketball and lacrosse. Worked as a cashier over the summer and into the school year. Have taken 2 honors English courses and I received a 3 on my AP Euro test last spring. Mostly taking highest classes i can be in. Currently taking Pre Calc and struggling... Applying Early Action. How much does applying EA and being OOS help/hurt me? Thanks so much.

Oh and forgot to mention, will be applying to the Sports Management major in the Kines dept. I hear they like to see commitment to athletics.

I applied to the sport management major in Kinesiology at Michigan this year and am currently deferred. I had a 3.76 W/3.62 UW GPA at one of the most rigorous schools in the state that has a very good relationship with U of M, and received a 30 on the ACT. I had a boatload of ECs including being Swim Team captain, Summer Team Coach, Newspaper Writer, Student Activities Committee Co-Chair, Pep Rally Director, etc. with an abundant amount of service hours (200+). My essays were stellar and I assume the same for my letters of rec. With that said, you are below my stat line and out of state, which should hurt you a bit. I don’t want to kill your hopes, but really get that ACT and/or GPA up and consider applying to LSA. Kinesiology at U-M is significantly harder to get into than it seems because there aren’t a lot of spots. Good Luck.

What would you say my chances are for LSA then?

you have similar stats as me and i got accepted EA to LSA

What stats did you have? Are you in state or OOS? That makes me happy haha.

Definitely seems to be a big difference in who they accept in-state vs. OOS… study HARD for that ACT and get your score up because I think your UW GPA is low for OOS. Good luck!

With your current GPA and ACT as well as your OOS status UMich is a large reach for you. And you don’t really have the extra curriculars to make up any ground.

im in state but they reported me as out of state because my mother lives out of state. so im not sure what im classified as. :stuck_out_tongue:
27 ACT
3.75 gpa
top 10%ish of my class. (I go to a small school also)
took most rigorous classes available and dual enrollment
great rec letters, pretty good essays.
i worked in a kitchen for 3 years and was in the band program throughout high school. Not many EC’s available here cuz its such a small school.
I would recommend taking the ACT one more time (I did too but it stayed at 27 :() and having your english teachers check over your essays and make sure to get good rec letters because those are also an important factor in the admissions process. I know how hard it is at small schools to take more extracurriculars and honors courses. my school has two AP courses. I met with a college rep from umich this year and they told me that they look at your stats compared to the averages from your school and what your school has to offer. so if you took all the ECs and honors available then your chances are pretty good.
