chance me please?!

I'm a junior at a very competitive high school in the bay area, california.
My sophomore year grades were not good at all because of personal family issues, but there is an upward trend in my gpa.
if it helps, i want to be a nurse or a physician's assistant when i grow up, so i'll probably be majoring in something biology related.

SAT: 2190 CR: 760 W: 700 M: 730 (I might retake it?)
ACT: Taking this spring
SAT II: Chinese: 760, Taking Bio, US History, and Math level 2 before the school year ends. Aiming for at least a 780, 760, and 780 respectively.
GPA: 3.4 UW, 3.64 W
AP: Chinese (5), APUSH, APBiology,
*currently enrolled, taking exam this may
Anticipated senior schedule
-AP US gov
-AP Econ
-AP Calc BC
-Contemporary Lit
-Photography

this summer, i'm planning on volunteering at Stanford Hospital and tutoring kids in math.
I also have around 200 community service hours.
I'm also involved in DECA, a business club.

Last summer, I took Psychology at a local community college and received a B, which would be an A weighted, correct? would that factor into my GPA?
but this spring quarter, I'm planning on taking physics, and over the upcoming summer, I'm planning on taking Statistics, Chemistry, and Business, which would all be weighted because i'm taking it @ a cc right?

if it helps, i also got a 231 on my psat, and i researched a little, and i think i have a prettty good chance at being a national merit semifinalist! i'm not 100% sure if my gpa will hold me back from being a finalist though. Is it wrong that I'm hoping that this will somewhat cushion my gpa?? :(

so i know my gpa isn't great at alll, but is there anything i can do to increase my chances of admission?!

Do you know your class rank? The fact that the school you attend is particularly competitive makes your less-than-stellar GPA not so bad (an upward trend in your GPA is also quite helpful), so a strong class rank could be more telling than your actual GPA. This, coupled with your impressive SAT score, gives you a very decent chance at UIUC.

I don’t see any reason to retake the SAT, but supplementing your 2190 with a strong ACT is a good idea. Right now, you should primarily focus on finishing your junior year strong to maximize your GPA, as that is really the only thing not working to your advantage right now.

i don’t think my school ranks the students, but our school is also 75% asian… so lots of people have pretty gooood grades, i wish i worked harder ):
if i take more community college classes & get A’s in them, will that up my gpa possibly? :o

Honestly, I have no idea how community college courses factor into your high school GPA. Do you have a counselor that you could ask about that?

With a 231 you’re a lock for a NMSF. If you don’t have any C’s you should be good to go for NMF. For UIUC you’re competitive. GL

I hope you get in Jennifer!

I think you have a solid chance, just keep working hard and get some leadership positions in a club or something.

I got into the UIUC college of engineering with a 3.4 GPA and 2190 SAT. I’m also Chinese (assuming you are because of your AP Chinese) so I was in the same boat as you.
