Hello, I am a Junior who is interested in majoring in AEROSPACE engineering field in UIUC and I was wondering if you guys could chance me...

SAT isn’t great of course, so work on that. With your GPA/courseload though if you can get your SAT up around 100 points you should be in very good shape. Increase it around 200 points and you’re a lock. Focus on math and reading though, your CR section is especially poor.

Your gpa is outstanding, but your SAT makes it a reach. Apply. But in the interim, work to get that standardized test score up. Taking the ACT is a good idea, many people do better on one than the other. If you don’t apply, your chances are zero. If you do, depending on your essays and personal statement, you ALWAYS have a shot. Your engineering classes and your volunteer record are definite pluses. Good luck.

You can go to parchment (website) and set up a profile to chance yourself (that’s what I did for all my schools).

Realistically though, you need to get your standardized test scores up. ESPECIALLY your math. For an engineering field at a top 5 engineering university, you should at least have your math over a 730 (if not more). Of course you should get your other scores up as well.

Your course load is pretty solid (your school does well in offering Engineering courses), and if your grades are what you say they are, then you should be good on that front as long as you maintain them.

Ideally though you should have more EC’s that fulfill leadership positions. What do you think is more appealing to colleges: a) Someone who took the initiative to make an impact in his/her organization/community? or b) Someone who went along with that leader? If you are a leader, you should post some of the things you have done. If not then it is not too late to go out and make a difference/accomplish a goal.

Also longevity is key in terms of EC’s. Colleges prefer the people who really stuck with what they did (demonstrates passion and commitment), than the people who were ‘one and done.’

So I think that you should work on enhancing your SAT/ACT scores, and putting some more effort into EC’s (the tech EC’s are good, but you need to make a difference in them for colleges to see that you are serious).

Right now as you are, 70% (mainly due to your strong grades). You can make that 95% if you work on the things above.

I was offered admission to CS in UIUC Eng this year, and currently it looks like I might accept that offer (still waiting on a few more schools though).
