Chance Me Please

Hello, College Confidential community. With the imminent release of Harvard's decisions, I find myself extremely nervous and anxious to receive my decision. I was wondering if someone could project my chances for admission to Harvard.

Based on the information you’ve presented, I’d say not less than 0%, but possibly higher. Good luck.

Essay: I think my common app essay was very well written. It was a reflection of how, growing up, I was an introverted, awkward kid, and this was only compounded by my parent’s divorce. But then it hopefully turned on how my connection with Sam from the Lord of the Rings gave me confidence and a set of ideals in which I truly believed, which helped me to become outgoing. My Harvard supplement essay was about my passion for role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, and how they’ve impacted me emotionally and academically.
Letters of Recommendation: I saw one letter after the teacher submitted it, and it was the nicest thing I’ve ever seen about myself.
Interview: I think it went really well, but likely won’t contribute anything to my chances.

I’m not entirely sure what else to add, but I’m incredibly stressed with the upcoming decision release. I would really appreciate it if someone chanced me. Thank you so much!

Your GPA and test scores are fine. The subjective stuff is always tough to gauge. You’re not a shoo-in and you’re not an auto-reject. I wish I could tell you more. Good luck, and I hope you have other good options.

Thanks for the reply, sherpa. Out of curiosity, do you know how much emphasis is placed on the Harvard interview? My local interviewer said Harvard interviews only the candidates they’re interested in, but the Harvard site says they try to contact everyone.

Several Harvard Alumni Interviews are on CC, and they can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the interview is among the lessor important parts of your application, if not the absolute last place item with the least emphasis.

So does that mean that being offered an interview means nothing about how much they’re considering your application?

In our area, they state that they interview every applicant. The email my D received from the interviewer read, “As you know, an interview is a required element of the Harvard application.” Nice and personal.

So then if two of my friends applied at the same time I did and didn’t get contacted for interviews at all, that means they can’t get in?

^^ No, that’s not what it means.

Harvard tries to interview every US applicant, but does not do the same for International students. See: [Harvard College Admissions § Applying: Interviews](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/application_process/interviews.html)

Applicants Applying within the United States
When and where possible, applicants may be invited to meet with alumni/ae in or near their school communities. No candidate is at a disadvantage if an interview cannot be arranged.

International Applicants
While we try to make interviews widely available it will not always be possible to arrange one abroad. Please visit the international interviews area of this website to determine whether an interview might be offered in your home country.

Harvard attempts to interview everyone. It cannot be done. Thus, they randomly assign domestic applicants to available alumni. If a student is not interviewed or is interviewed, it is not an indication of eventual decision. Basically, there is no time to pre-sort the applications – the zero-chancer and shoo-in are treated the same.

Plus it’s four days away. Why are you asking your “chances” now? C’mon.

I know it’s really desperate, T26E4. Its just nerves about the upcoming decision release.

debate: if you’re anywhere near a viable candidate, then you can be 99.8% assured that come 4-5 years, you’ll be holding a diploma after a very successful college career.

Been there done that – if an Ivy isn’t your alma mater, the earth doesn’t split. You should be enjoying yourself rt now. You’ve probably worked hard and now you should rightly feel proud. Whether u hear Y or N from Harvard isn’t an indicator of that.

I know, you’re right of course. Just a long term hope that I want to make a reality.
