Please chance me and help me think of things that will boost my chance of getting in! Will getting another job in the summer in a restaurant in addition to the chinese food restaurant increase my chances?

bump… please help!

Cornell: low reach

GPA is low:( retake act try to get a 2200+
ECs are good and try to focus on Ur passion and getting another job might help. Also take most rigours senior schedule

i think cornell only looks at reading and math for the SATs. im gonna shoot for around a 650 reading. is that okay? and im taking 3 APs and one honors course next year for senior year. and doubling up on a job during the summer is a good idea?

The freshman class that entered Fall 2011 had a middle 50th % CR scores of 590-680. (Math was 640-740, so no problems there for you.)

For Cornell across ALL Schools, the SAT scores of the middle 50%…

Critical Reading: 640-740
Math: 670 - 780

Now for SHA, the SAT numbers will be lower, however you want scores int he upper range of those numbers to make up for your GPA, which is pretty low for Cornell.

Try to get some more hotel experience too.

SMRSMR–I neglected to say that the middle 50% scores that I posted above were for the SHA class that entered Fall 2011. I agree with you completely that this applicant would want to be at or above the 75th % to compensate for the low GPA, especially when applying as an unhooked applicant.

Cornell’s not that great for an Ivy League… But if that’s where you want to go, Good luck!!

I agree with Hopsin 100%
If you are aiming for Cornell, you must bring up your GPA the most you can and retake your SAT. Your stats are great, but to increase your chance just bring it up a bit more.

Good luck!

@Rsxx92, Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration is the #1 hospitality program in the world. That’s good. Cornell also has the best engineering school of all the Ivies, by a long shot.

I’d say you’re middle-low pool, probably ~10% chance of getting in.

Also, lol at Cornell ‘not being a great Ivy.’

I picked Cornell w/ Rawlings CPRS over Caltech and Columbia.

It’s much better for biology research RIGHT NOW and for the next few years. It’s ignorant to say that a college on the whole is not great. Look at individual programs. Example: Nanotech at SUNY Albany kicks ass, and Albany sucks.

is at its best a rather dim reflection on the poster rather than anything of value with respect to Cornell. If you are a current high school student --as I imagine you are from your post about currently struggling in pre-calculus-- then I would suggest that you strive to apply a bit more rigor as you formulate and share your observations and opinions.
On what do you base your opinion? Have you visited Cornell? Sat in on classes? Spoken with professors? Examined its seven colleges and their breadth and depth of offerings? Examined its scholar and advanced programs? Compared corporate interview/placement opportunities, ROI, and grads school admit rates, etc. with other Ivies and well beyond? The OP is considering the Hotel School which is one the best in the world at what it does. And Cornell Engineering is considered by many among the most rigorous, if not the best, engineering program in the Ivy league. Are you aware of any of this? Someone coming here for information and advice needs to take heed of flippant remarks such as this.

I was talking about through avg SAT and other stats that people post on CC. But I’m sure that Cornell has some places where they exceed tremendously . I know that they have a fine pre medical program so I plan on visiting if my parents want to drive me 600 miles
