Essay: above the average applicant to these schools, but not amazing

Recommendations: Really really good, APUSH teacher & Chem/AP Chem teacher (both know how hard I work), Guidance Counselor (adores me)

Hook: A solid recruit in swimming at the schools, but not a major recruit

But why on Earth would you want to be a swimmer for these schools, which are known not for their athletics but for their academics?
For ANY athletic recruit, the school he/she wants to attend should have a good program for that particular sport. None of these colleges are good for athletics in general, including swimming specifically. So I would first and foremost reevaluate your college choices.

As such, I won’t bother to chance you for schools that make no sense for you to apply to.

Also, Precalculus is not college level.

All this said, you would make for a competitive applicant at many good schools.

Can you chance me in my thread? It’s the Michigan Ross one.
Thanks

legoo- Williams, Johns Hopkins, and Amherst are top 10 D3 programs for swimming and all have very good teams (multiple national champions). I am very knowledgeable in swimming and know the landscape of college swimming. I am not a recruit who’s going to go to the Olympics. These teams fit my level of swimming, except maybe Tufts where I am a little better than the team. I am CHOOSING to go D3 so I’m able to go to nationals and have a have chance at getting a national title.

Oh. I see. My apologies.
Very well then.

bump…

I won’t comment on whether certain schools have good athletics or not (I have no idea if they do), I’ll definitely chance you.

What I see right away is that your SAT Writing is low compared to you excellent SAT Critical Reading and Math. You still have a 2180, which is very good, but getting that writing up even 5 or so points makes your application all the much better. I’d advise you to retake the SAT, and try to improve that writing score. Doing so would give you measurably better chances. With that being said, everything else looks great. You have awesome grades, course rigor, rank, extracurriculars, and you show a clear love for swimming. If you are good enough to be recruited for swimming, some of my statements may be moot, but I’ll assume that you aren’t being majorly recruited.

Williams College: High Match/Low Reach (Higher SAT Writing would probably make it a match)
Johns Hopkins: High Match/ Low Reach
Amherst College:Low Reach
Georgetown: High Match (they didn’t report SAT writing, leading me to believe that they don’t value it too much)
Tufts: High Match/ Low Reach

Again, get that SAT Writing sub-score up, and you could increase your chances at all of these schools by measurable amounts. Say that you can get SAT Writing up to a 700, then all of them would probably be high matches.

Hoped that helped. Sorry that mine is such a brick, but chance me back?
