Chance me please!

Hey guys, I have a 3.6 GPA weighted, 2000 sat score, 30 act score, 11 on the sat essay. I know my GPA is low, it dropped as my parents nearly separated twice and left me with mild depression. It's all good now :) Retaking the SAT, will probably get above a 2100.

ECs:

NHS,

NTHS,

Rocketry club

Debate,

Chess,

UIL in math, number sense, calculator, science

Jazz band

Marching Band

Drumline

varsity swim team

engineering club

President/Creator of Aviation club, we've gotten like 10 people to fly airplanes

President of NTHS

Section leader of band

I have almost 2 years job experience as a book keeper

Hopefully will have 200+ community service by the end of this summer

I am Hispanic living in one of the poorest parts of the country (across the street from border wars)

Its a long story, but I, (with the help of a teacher) founded a high school aviation club. One of the first in Texas, it has grown to almost 30 people in less than a semester, over 10 people have received free flying lessons and flown a plane. Recognized in the news papers, TV, school websites, and college professors from UNT have asked to speak to the club. As president and founder, I made all of this happen.

Other interesting things- 1st Place in the state of Texas for chess. This was 7th grade, not sure if it's relevant. I have a trophy that's almost 6 feet tall though :D

Taking an engineering internship at a local business next year.

Helped found the Ultimate Frisbee Organization at my school, one of the first members and supporters, there are no officers though

My job experience as a book keeper: My parents own three businesses. I have been working two years as their secretary/bookkeeper. (This isn't some slack off scam, I clocked in and out and was on payroll like any other employee) Roughly 20 hours a week.

My own ebay business includes buying, selling, and reselling various electronics, collectibles, and vintage products, making up to 500 a week on most successful times.

GPA is lacking, I know, but I'm taking 7 AP classes next year along with the internship I mentioned.

Schools I'm into:

Note I live in Texas

Tulane

UT

Rice

UCB

Georgia Tech

Stanford

UCLA

Columbia

UF

Duke

Yes I know that's a lot of schools, and most are tough! But I think with my rigorous schedule and my unique ECs I could have a chance!

Which of these would you guess I would be accepted into assuming my SAT is above 2100 by the time I apply and my grades are all A+ by the time I apply next year. Do you think I'll get accepted by any of these?

Anyone…?

ACT 30 and GPA 3.6 are both too low for UCB, Stanford, Columbia, and Duke.

Well, I already knew my scores were low, so that didn’t help much

Anyone else?

I would say if you maybe score higher on your SAT and state your AP’s, you will be fine!

Complik, I don’t think I’m the best person with the great knowledge on how to get into ivies being a student and all that doesn’t have the best grades but I’ll give it a shot. I myself want to get into some of those Ivies you listed up above. I say your EC’s are fantastic that will make you stand out big time. with your gpa just raise that a bit and you’ll be fine seriously freshman year I had a HORRIBLE gpa and now as a sophomore have a 2.7 before school ends i’m trying to get it to a 3.0 :frowning: I slacked off big time so don’t worry and seriously it’s not always about the test scores have amazing recommendations, an essay that stands out and I think you will be fine. Its extremely hard to get into Stanford I heard. They don’t like robots people who have best test scores and perfect everything they look for flaws too they admit students who they have seen can try and won’t give up that have made huge improvements. Good Luck never give up on your dream!!! Edited* - My brother btw graduated yesterday and he had a 1700 on his SATs or higher and he didn’t retake it but however be the smart ass he is he got into his dream uni and I think your SAT score if amazing but retake because colleges like to see you gave it another shot.

What was your gpa and grades for all four years

Thanks sandchick, that sure makes me feel better
And I’m not too sure, I need to get a transcript

Anyone else?

Come onnnn

What can I do right now besides retaking tests?

I say focus on your ECs. They don’t need improvement but really demonstrate your dedication and love for these ECs. Especially the aviation club, that is so interesting and I think that if it has any meaning whatsoever to your intended major then play it up!
You’re doing all you can right now, just keep trying your hardest and showing you’re dedicated!

Thanks! Do you think I’d have a chance a Georgia Tech or CalTech? Possible major is Aeronautical Engineering so that goes well with aviation

Also, how much does an interview help if I ace it?
