<p>I have just ended my junior year. I am part of the IB program, and I also take several AP courses. My course load for this year was IB Biology, Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, AP US History, Ap English Language, IB Latin, and TOK/Research.
My weighted GPA is a bit low: 3.38
Weighted: 4.17 I do not know my rank.
SAT: 2210 CR: 740 M: 670 W: 800
I plan to retake. I want to get above 2300.

I plan to take for senior year: AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Statistics, AP Calculus BC, AP English Lit, AP Latin, IB TOK/AP microeconomics, AP US government/ap macroeconomics.

I took part in HOSA and started Take heart America programs in neighborhood elementary schools. I have participated in public health education sessions for people living in low income neighborhoods.
I am currently working on two research projects now. One that deals with biochemistry and another in medicine (possibly might tie in optogenetics). I am trying to get these papers published by major science organizations such as the american physiological society and the endocrine society.
I am planning to be a member of the local county's public health committee and health it committee.
I am working as a pharmacy technician at the hospital where my mother works.
I have volunteered at the local children's clinic in the oncology and pulmonology departments.
I am planning to work with programs promoting the development of education (trying to support IB schools) and public health in my native country.
I have volunteered in the art museum in a program (camp) for special needs kids.
I have volunteered in the food bank, red cross, housing projects for the homeless.
Do I have a chance of getting into emory, vanderbilt, carnegie mellon, northwestern, washington university in st. louis, New York university, Rice University, college of william and mary, or university of chicago, or Gatech?
My backup plan is morehouse college or UF.
Also for background information I am a immigrant. I am from Africa.
Any advice is helpful, and please be honest.</p>
<p>Is 3.38 your uw GPA? You have listed 2 different weighed GPA. With uw GPA at 3.38 and CR+M at 1410, Northwestern, NYU, Rice, and U Chicago would be reaches for you.</p>
<p>The 3.38 is my unweighted GPA. Once again, I do plan to retake the SAT. Also do my ECs help me out? Also what are my chances for emory and vanderbilt? Thank you for the input.</p>
<p>Your ECs are good, they will help. Tell an interesting story. Most of the schools you put here are reaches for everyone. Rice, Chicago, NYU are all hard to get into. Consider them reaches. You might have a good chance at GTech. Good luck :)</p>
<p>Your low GPA is going to hurt you a lot for top schools. Really good E.C.'s (like you have) will make up for your low GPA, but not by too much. The fact that you are a URM will help you, but I’d say:</p>
<p>U Chicago: High Reach
NYU: Low Reach
Rice: Low Reach/ Reach
Northwestern: Reach
Wash U: Reach
Vanderbilt: Reach
Georgia Tech: Match/ High Match</p>
<p>Your GPA is pretty low, so definitely get that up as much as you can. Also, for someone who seems to have a strong interest in the sciences, your Math SAT score is pretty low- for this caliber of schools it really should be in the 700s. But I do think your ECs will help you- they show service and leadership, and a strong passion for the sciences. Your personal story sets you apart too, and this could help you. The schools you’re looking at are very tough to get into, but if you can raise your GPA enough, you should by no means count yourself out. Good luck!</p>
<p>Chance me back?
[Chance</a> for Brown + other top schools?](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1514229-chance-brown-other-top-schools.html]Chance”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1514229-chance-brown-other-top-schools.html)</p>
<p>yo don’t forget emory loves demonstrated interest, so call up the admissions office every once in a while, join mailing list, etc. same with northwestern and WUSTL</p>
