Chance Me, Please?

Hello! I'm a rising Senior from Florida, and I'm looking to apply to Emory, Vanderbilt, UM, UF, FSU, and USF.

Stats:
GPA: 4.52 weighted and 3.92 un-weighted
Currently ranked #2 in my class of 360 or so
SAT: 2110 Superscore [640 CR] [730 M] [740 W]

Past Ap Classes:
AP World (scored a 5)
AP Psych (waiting on scores to come in)
AP US History (waiting on scores to come in)
AP English Lang (waiting on scores to come in)
AP Bio (waiting on scores to come in)

Senior Year APs:
AP Calc AB
AP English Lit
AP Macroeconomics
AP Microeconomics
AP Government and Politics

My Extracurriculars aren't very impressive. I'm a member of 3 honor societies (and a former member of a fourth) and a member of the school's volunteering club.

My best extracurricular is that I'm the assistant coach for a local baseball team (I had been playing on that team for at least 6 years previously, but I am now older than the age limit).

I also have done some volunteering in the classroom for my 4th grade elementary school teacher and have racked up hours down at the local soup kitchen.

Any advice and chances would be much appreciated, and also any recommendations for any other college that I have overlooked in my searches. Thanks so much in advance!

i am from florida and planning to apply to most of those schools too. your GPA is a little low but based off your class rank, it seems like you are taking the most rigorous coursework at your highschool, and that is all that really matters. Vanderbilt seems to strive for diversity, so i would try to appeal to that. you should be good for all the instate schools. good luck

Thanks for the response! I’m not very sure how I can, as a white male, really contribute to Vandy’s diversity. Do you (or does anyone else) have any advice about Emory? I think that Emory is the school that I would really like to go to if given the opportunity.

All of those, except for Vanderbilt and Emory are probably safeties. Vanderbilt and Emory are slight reaches. I guess my only advice would be try to pick up your SAT reading score, and join a few more clubs once the fall rolls around.

Thanks, Smithg. That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking. Do you think that if I were to found (correct tense?) a new club at my school that it would improve my chances?

I’m a white female, so I understand the difficulty of setting yourself apart. Founding a club is a great way to show dedication and passion, which was another emphasis at Vanderbilt.

Okay, thanks for the input  I will seriously consider starting a club up next year.

Are there any other colleges that you yourself have considered that may be more of a “match” for me?

Do you have any ideas on what you want to major in?

Stetson and Alabama as a safety. If location doesn’t matter, Duke as a reach

Unfortunately, I’m not exactly sure. I’ve been trying to figure it out for a while now, and I think I will probably do something on the business end of the spectrum, but I’m not really sure yet. But hey, that’s what freshman year in college is for, right?

I’m set on biomedical engineering, so duke is one of my top. If you think business, I would consider UVA. I loved it there. I am personally a fan of auburn, great town, good school, and a really involved campus. I’ve also looked at UNC which might be in your reach. Georgia tech may also be good for you.

I don’t think Duke would really be the right place for me. I get the feeling that it leans too heavily on the science and medical fields, which are fields that I don’t want to go into (at least the medical part).

I don’t think Stetson is right for me, either. I haven’t considered Alabama, but I have considered Tulane. It’s free to apply there :)

Love Tulane, but my parents don’t want me in NO. Also look at Davidson in NC

Haha. Okay, thanks. I’ll check those places out.

When you say UNC, you are not meaning Chapel Hill, are you?

Yeah chapel hill. Nice school. Cool town and lots of schools spirit but still has a good reputation and some standard.

I have a cousin that goes there. She loves it. They have a good basketball team, too. I’ll check it out  thanks

Does anyone else have an opinion? It would be much appreciated for some more advice, but a big thanks to those who have already helped me out. :)

bump?..please?

I think you have a shot with all the schools, everything looks great!! (Chance me)

Thanks, Rashad.

I just thought of something else to add: I have my Microsoft Office Certifications for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. Would that have any influence at all during admissions?
