Hi I'm a rising senior, female OOS. Can someone tell me my chances at W&M and whether or not I should apply ED. Thanks. :)

GPA: 4.5 Weighted (Valedictorian has a 4.9), 3.8 Unweighted

SAT: 2030 Total- CR 680, M 680, W 670

AP/DE: 9 total, the rest honors

ECs: Soccer (9,10) (Quit because of injury, Captain 10th grade), Work- Allstate (10,11,12) (part time during the school year, 45 hours a week during the summer), NHS (11,12), Mu Alpha Theta (11,12)

Community Service: Volunteer at church weekly, Coach youth soccer, Camp counselor at two camps, other service projects. Will have probably 300 hours.

Awards: Academic Award in Philosophy, Coach's Award, Gold Cord for service hours, 1st place in math competition, Honor Roll

I got a C+ (79.4) in Biology Honors for a semester my freshman year. How do you think that will impact my chances?

Thanks :)

If you are sure it’s your top choice, apply ED. It will really boost your chances. I think you have a good shot if you work hard on the essay. Good luck!

It would help for a more definite answer if grades and rigor of classes are attached. However the c shouldn’t bring you down too far as long as you improved second semester.

You are certainly in the running based on your high GPA, number of AP classes and evidence of extracurriculars. One C+ in 9th grade is a non issue. (Trends, whether upwards or downwards are problably noted accordingly.)

That said, you asked whether or not you should apply ED. You should apply ED if you are 100% sure you want to attend W&M. You should NOT apply ED if you THINK you MAY want to atttend W&M but worried you may not get in. If you “bleed green and gold” and feel it is absolutely the place for you, then go for it! If W&M is up there on your list, but you also love one, two or ten other schools then apply RD. If you go the RD route, I’d suggest perhaps taking the SAT again, or take the ACT and maybe seek out a leadership position. Also, an interview would enhance your chances if you are comfortable having one. Good luck!!
