Chance me please?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone with experience with UF's admissions could "chance me". I'm going into my senior year of high school this year. I would be an out of state student.

My dad, uncle, grandmother and grandfather are all UF graduates.

GPA: 3.5 w

SAT: (composite 1750)
Reading: 630
Writing: 630
Math: 490

ACT: (composite 29)
English: 32
Reading: 33
Writing: 31
Math: 25
Science: 24

I've taken three AP classes, two IB classes and several honors classes. Clearly, math is not my strong suit. I've taken 5 years of Spanish (the maximum at my school). I'm an editor on the school yearbook, I'm in Spanish Club, Key Club and I'm a freshman mentor. I've won awards for volunteering, gone to leadership conferences and won a "Superior" ranking at a national competition for writing. I have a job and work at least 20 hours each week.

For my senior year I am taking one more IB class and two dual credit classes.

What are my chances of being accepted?

Your 3.5 weighted GPA is low and so are your SAT scores. Your extracurricular seem ok but you needed to improve your SAT scores and GPA as much as possible. To be blunt, I don’t think your chances are very high.

Here’s information on the recently admitted freshman class:

Mid 50% GPA: 4.1-4.5
Average GPA: 4.3
Mid 50% SAT: 1840-2100
Average SAT: 1967
Mid 50% ACT: 28-32
Average ACT: 30

These are based on how UF calculates GPA (+1 for DE/IB, +0.5 for honors). Note that this year’s admitted class was the highest academically profiled class in the history of UF.

I’ve heard that UF is biased towards IB students for admissions, so that works in your favor. However, your weighted GPA is extremely low, your ACT score barely meets UF standards (which are rising with every passing year), and your SAT score doesn’t really make the cut. Your ECs are good though. If you have any awards, those help as well.

However, because of your academics & test scores, I don’t see you getting into UF next year. However, the admissions process is holistic, so all is not completely lost. There is a chance that your ECs may make up for your academic performance. Good luck with your application.

^^^ All true.

On a positive note, a little less than a 1/3 of UF’s undergrads are transfer students. If you really want to go to UF, you can. :)

Take your first 2 years at another school, get your GPA up and then apply.

Good Luck!

Your GPA might be low, but they still take into account the amount of rigorous classes you have too.
