I've gotten 3+ on all of my exams with a 4 in AP English and a 5 in AP US History.

I am ranked 3/330 in my class and plan to keep it that way.

I am a Hispanic male who lives, and I live in New Mexico (I've been told this is an advantage...haha) I am bilingual, and I plan on getting my bilingual seal this year.

Past EC's in school:

And, personally, I don't think this something worth putting on a college app but other people tell me I should. I was on high court in my school's homecoming court.

Tons of Community Service and tutoring
Was a part of Albuquerque Junior Symphony, District Honor Band, All-State, etc.
I've won outstanding musician awards at various festivals.

Recs:
I am confident that both my English teacher and band director will write good letters.

Essay:
I'm not the best writer. Currently out of an AP score of 9, my teacher rates me at a 7-8.
But I will get help from my teacher, as well as the valedictorian of my class.

I am applying to U of Chicago and Duke early.
Then UCLA, Colorado State, U of Michigan.

I don't know what I'll study yet, but Sociology/Criminology is probably what I'm going towards. And a minor in Music.
I know Duke is basically out-of-reach, but my peer encouraged to try just in case!

Please chance me! :) I appreciate the responses!

Why do you say Duke is out of reach? I think you’d be a very competitive applicant, especially if you apply early.

I’d say Duke is a low-mid reach depending on your essays.
U Chicago is a mid reach
UCLA is a low reach
Colorado State is a high match
U Michigan is a high match/low reach (don’t know much about out-of-state, assuming it’s competitive)

I think you are a very strong applicant, just work on those essays and I think you’ll get in somewhere you belong!

Duke is not out of reach for you, especially with your nationality…

Duke: Low reach
UChicago: Low reach
UCLA: Low reach
Colorado State: Match
UMichigan: High Match

Try to find a safety!

I forgot to mention that my safety is U of New Mexico!
& I was thinking of applying to maybe Penn as well if you guys don’t mind chancing me once more! I appreciate the feedback :)

Bumppppppppp

Sorry to keep bumping! I would just like a little bit more feedback! Thank you!

Colorado State is worse than a backup school for you!!! (no idea what these people are saying) Consider Wisconsin Madison, NYU, and even Michigan Ann Arbor as just backups. YOU SELF REPORT YOUR AP SCORES ON APPLICATIONS (don’t report any, 3s are super unimpressive and just submitting one or two would be suspicious). They are also unlikely to count for any college credit for the places you are looking. A 4.0 is ridiculous!!! You are a fantastic candidate for much better schools (GPA and Course Rigor are the MOST considered by the above colleges).
That being said, University of Chicago and Duke are high matches or low reaches (they reject roughly half of the people who have a 4.0 or a 32) but your extracurriculars and race will help you here. Maybe Tufts, UCLA, Emory, Rice, and even Brown should be considered (early apply to Brown/Rice if not binding)

I greatly appreciate the response! It’s a huge motivator for me!
And I actually am considering Michigan. We’ll see…
