Essay/Personal Statement:
My essays and personal statement were amazing (As I've been told). I talked about how my GPA doesn't define who I am in my personal statement. I talked about my cutural background and family hardships and how that effected me throughout high school in my essays and it came out really well.

I know it may be a far far reach but is there any hope for me at all? I'm curious to know. I do have backup colleges that I've gotten into (Baylor and Colorado Boulder) and I also applied to some more far reaching schools as well.

How do you plan on paying for the UW? This is the first year they’ve given scholarships to OOS students but the tuition and fees are close to $32,000/year. Housing and meals are an extra $10,000/year.

You might be surprised at the amount of financial aid you can get from a private school–especially if your essays are amazing. My daughter is a Washington State resident and it was cheaper for her to attend a private university on the other side of the country than it was for her to attend the University of Washington. She did have a fairly high non-weighted GPA and pretty good test scores but neither her GPA nor her test scores were spectacular.

The only way I can think of is Student loans. I as well as my mom told myself that I’m not going to let money get in the way of having a good education. With that being said, I don’t think I can get into a private institution anywhere. My grades and test scores aren’t up to par.

You’re right Baylor is private. The only reason I got in was because I had The Select App plus my mother works for their medical center so I’m assuming that helped the process. And Well yeah I’ll find other means.

It’s all well and dandy to say that, but it’s completely unrealistic and short-sightedly foolish. First of all, you can’t get loans in your name above 5500 (slightly higher for higher years). Banks aren’t going to loan to an 18 year old without income and assets. Assuming you find a cosigner, that person needs to be approved all FOUR years- and it gets harder each year. A parent with <$45k in income isn’t going to be approved for 6-figures worth of loans.

Paying off loans SUCKS. It really does. Run the calculators and see how much it would cost you PER MONTH for at least the next 10 long, long years. It constrains your choices- where you live, what jobs you take, whether or not you can have a family, etc. Don’t do it.
