Chance me please?

Hello! I’m a current high school junior and I’d really like to get into Cal Poly Pomona, but I’m not quite sure if I’d be accepted. I’m nearing the end of my high school years and I’m very nervous about being admitted into colleges…

So far:

Cumulative weighted GPA: 4.04
Cumulative unweighted GPA: 3.72
CSU GPA: 3.96

AP Classes:
10 - AP Euro 3, AP Stats 3
11 (Taking tests next week!) - AP Bio, AP Psych, AP Eng Lang, AP US Hist
12 (Classes signed up for next year) - AP French, AP Physics, AP Calc AB, AP Econ, AP Eng Lit

The only AP Classes that I’m not taking that is provided for by my high school is AP Gov and AP Calc BC.
Otherwise, I’ve never turned down an honors course.

I’ll be taking the SATs next month in June and again in the fall. I’m considering taking the ACT as well.

I’m currently in the top 5% of my high school.

Extra Curricular:

Secretary of a club that aids the homeless in our community
Co-President of the fashion club at our high school

I’m very interested in Architecture, but particularly the engineering side of it so I’m planning on applying for Industrial Engineering and hoping to take some Architecture classes as well.

I would very much like financial aid, that’s one of my main priorities so if you could chance me for how much financial aid as well that would be very much appreciated!

Thank you so much!

Based on your GPA & course rigor, I think your chances are excellent. You’ll know more after you take the SAT/ACT. You can see the Fall 2013 average gpa & SATs for entering freshmen:

Industrial engineering looks to be one of the easier engineering majors to get into:

http://www.csupomona.edu/~irar/Documents/Application%20Counts%20by%20Major_Fall%202011%20to%20Fall%202013.pdf</a></p>

The CSUs don’t really give much weight to extra curricular activities, but they are important if you’re planning to apply to UCs.

As far as financial aid goes, that’s really going to depend on your family’s financial situation. You can start to get an idea of what you might get by using the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Calculator (<a href=“Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Calculator - Finaid”>About Finaid - Finaid) and the CSU net price calculator (<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU).

Assuming you do well on your SATs, you would be a strong candidate for other CSUs, as well as UCs.

My daughter will be starting at CPP in civil engineering this fall. These are her stats:

CSU/UC W GPA: 3.96 (UW: 3.65)
SAT: 1260 (M: 650; CR: 610)
ACT Comp: 26
AP/IB Classes: AP Euro, AP USH, AP Engl Lang/Comp, AP Bio, AP Env Sci, AP Calc BC, IB Hist, IB Psych, IB Engl Lit

Best wishes!

Honestly, I’d apply for something else than industrial. See if you’d rather do one of the other engineering majors. Industrial is relatively easy to get into. All you really need to do 1200/1600 on the SAT’s and I’d say you’re really competitive for the other ones.
