I think that you have a very solid shot at USC and Stern with your scores. I think anything bar, perhaps, the top 15 for USNWR Nat’l Universities is very feasible for you (once you get to the tippy top, admissions becomes a lottery for everyone) - have you considered Tufts? Tufts is an excellent school in MA in Greater Boston (not Boston proper like BU) - and it is highly regarded as both a key figure in academics as well as research - I think Tufts could be a great option for you.

I really wouldn’t recommend BU unless they’re throwing a LOT of money at you - I know quite a few people at my school who chose BU over their other options and opted to pay 25k+ a year for it which is either financed from savings or loans - but either way, I never saw a BU education as something worth over 100k for four years. BU has been pretty stagnant in their rankings when compared to NeU - while NeU has made significant progress in improving their facilities and have had massive upward mobility in their general perception on the plane of higher education, BU seems to not be doing quite as well. Northeastern went from being a commuter school comparable to a 4 year community college to a considerably selective research university in about 30 years. I believe Northeastern’s acceptance rate dipped below 30% this year, where as BU has been steady in their medians and rate for a while now.

With regards to going to BU, I think there might be more purpose in going to school for enrichment if one is rich. Let’s make up a situation where I am rich. I am very interested in Physics, but I am rich and can sustain myself. I want to go to college, but it is not just for an undergrad enrichment. I want to be a Physicist, and the only way to get a good job in it, regardless of pay, is with a PhD. One might choose BU because it has a good Physics program, not because it is a small community. One might go there with a career in mind but not money, and therefore the coddling environment is not needed for some.

Once again Preamble shows his naivete about BU. BU’s acceptance rate was 45.5 percent in 2012, 37 percent in 2013 and 34 percent in 2014. NU on the other hand is the university that is stagnating in regards to its acceptance rate now fluctuating a couple of percentage points in a couple of years. Not to mention the massive ceiling that NU has over it with their awful endowment.

BU must be making quite a big chunk of change off of you.

I hope you enjoy your ivory tower by Roxbury.

LOLOL - I sincerely hope BU isn’t making you pay 25k+ a year or more but I fear that might actually be the case. …Whoops.

And also the sly dig at Roxbury - I’ve lived in Roxbury before; it ain’t that bad.

You can interpret it as a dig at Roxbury or a dig at the university that takes from Boston and gives the least back, helping to perpetuate the cycle of poverty that exists right next to it.

Ah yes, I forgot that most of Roxbury consists of Northeastern graduates. Cute.

How much are you paying for BU per year? I hope you aren’t planning on law school or medical school.

Ah yes, the outright dismissal of the people in the same neighborhood as you. The same people you apparently knew, well you’re at the top of their skyscrapers now, no reason to look down huh?Northeastern is incapable of making a difference right?

What the hell are you even talking about? Who am I looking down at? Roxbury isn’t all Northeastern graduates… graduates of schools don’t usually all reside together in a single homogeneous neighborhood after graduation. You implied that Roxbury was somehow created by Northeastern’s “terrible” job placement or something when Roxbury isn’t absolute poverty - there are parts susceptible to the evils of crime and gang activity and then there are thriving neighborhoods of culture and history that are part of Boston’s pride.

If I’m dismissing anyone, I’m dismissing people who spent tens of thousands (or even well over a hundred thousand) dollars to attain a college education when there are far more affordable options available. You have yet to answer any of my questions about the extent to which you are financing your time at BU so I’m inclined to believe that you’re blowing quite a huge chunk of change on it. How much debt did BU put you in? How much debt will BU put you in once they give you your degree?

@preamble1776, do you agree with the situation I described above as being a possibility?

@Cosmological - Yes, certainly.

My grades dropped to 3.1 second semester with a C in Calculus. Did i just lose my chance?

Is that a 3.1 in isolation (just this semester) or cumulatively? What is your CumGPA right now? @atzenmaki

3.0 cum for sophomore and junior and 3.5ish freshmen at another school

3.0 cum for sophomore and junior and 3.5ish freshmen at another school

You should be fine for BU tbh. Your reaches got knocked down a decent lot. Getting merit is a different story, although it seems your set based off of your stock market gains.
