Chance me please?

<p>Hi! I'm currently a junior (CA resident), and I'm really scared about applying this year...it would be awesome if you can possibly chance me for UoP...</p>

<p>My school is really competitive and send like 22 kids to UC Berkeley per year (many more are accepted but chose other schools) and at least 6 kids to Ivy schools
No valedictorian or class ranking in my school
My GPAs are as followed:
1. cumulative gpa - 4.09
2. cumulative unweighted - 3.76
3. ca cal grant gpa - 3.56
4. weighted 10-12 a-g gpa- 4.17
I am 3/4 Korean and 1/4 White
Classes:
Sophomore: AP Euro, Honors Chemistry, English 10, Yoga, Honors Precalc w/ Trig, VB.net programming, japanese 2
Junior (current schedule): AP Chemistry, AP Music Theory, Japanese 3, AP Lang, AP US History, AP Calc AB

---> My senior schedule is less rigourous than my junior year schedule due to major scheduling conflicts. All of the weighted class over at my school are afternoon classes, which isn't exactly ideal unless you have a time turner :(</p>

<p>Hook: sobbing i wish i had a hook... :( Can I count myself as a first gen if my mom did not go to school here but my dad went to a school over at NY?</p>

<p>I know that my gpa and testing scores are really low especially since one of my close friends died earlier in the school year, but I'm really hoping that maybe my ec will help me a bit :( I'm going to try my best to write a killer essay :((</p>

<p>I will also be applying early action if that changes things a bit. </p>

<p>I got into uop’s 5 year prepharm program this year 2014 with only a 1900 sat, 730 math lvl 2, 610 bio m.
And my extracurriculars werent as impressive as yours but I intentionally tried not to list all my accomplishments which some didnt parallel to who i am as a person, but rather posted the ones that truly mattered to me which was music. I even wrote my essay, kinda poorly written because of grammar, about my passion for music and how I struggled with a music competition with all kinds of hindrance but somehow I managed to win and my philosophy in music. For reccomendations, I got one teacher from a class that I struggled (got B’s) but showed effort by having her reccomend me one of her best formal student tutor me in ap calc bc during my junior year, but barely helping me pass. Honestly, my gpa is about 4.1 w and 3.59 uw and have not gotten a single A in any of my honors/ap science class (all B’s) and two A’s ever earned in my math classes.
My reccomendations to you is to write an essay that truly sticks out to you and don’t worry too much about sounding “unique” or “boring”. It took me less than 15 minutes to write mine because I wrote what truly mattered to me and tried to sound real. I think if you have a focus in your application (could be more than one), it shows how disciplined and passionate you are. However, in your essay, dont ever write about things that you havent done yet such as a promises to improve yourself or etc because colleges don’t trust you yet in that fashion and don’t try to sound sophisticated because it’s more cliche than you think.
Good luck and remember, though I think you have a great chance and have great essay topics (just by reading you post), you do not have control over the outcome and what happens just happens.</p>
