Your only weakness seems to be difficulty of courses in highschool. However this seems to be partially the schools fault. You should possibly consider mentioning this in your application. For the ivys you have as good a chance as most people, however ivy schools are a reach for EVERYBODY. You definetly have a chance. As for the other schools I think their complete matches except Stanford which is the same scenario as the ivy schools. Good luck!

I agree with the above. That could be explained in the school report or the GC letter, but it looks like you took advantage of all the opportunities available to you. You have a decent shot at all of them, good luck!

@sd9754‌ @shawnspencer‌ my bad for the understatement but my courses freshman and sophomore year were actually on the more difficult side. I did well in all of them, but they were definitely on the more difficult side. My school is a top school, its just that they don’t offer AP’s to freshman and only 1 to sophomores. and then junior and senior year you can take up to 4. My school offers many AP’s also. I took the most difficult load that I could and my counselor hopefully will say the same thing.

That’s honestly fine. You took the most difficult coursleoad available. My school doesn’t offer any APs to sophomores, and is somewhat behind a year in math and science, and yet people were still able to get into those schools you mentioned.

@shawnspencer‌ about how many kids from your class applied to those schools I listed above (namely YHPSM)

Don’t you need to take AB before BC?

no

Well I don’t know how many applied but I can tell you how many people got accepted
Yale: 1
Penn: 1
UMich: 3
Brown:1
CMU: 1

Out of that list, only one of them took an AP sophomore year (special circumstances, schedule conflict)

@OP, very impressed,

SAT scores>>>>Great
ECs>>>>Great
GPA>>>>Good

If ur essays are good, then u have a great chance

@manas1997‌ and everyone else I got a couple B’s at the beginning of freshman year.

First Semester freshman year my grades were
B+
B
B+
A-
B
B+
A-

Second Semester sophomore my grades were
A-
A-
A-
B+
B+
A-
B+
A

at my school, a B is a 90 to 87, but my grades in the classes were low 90’s which resulted in the B, and a B+ is a 91 to a 92

After that my GPA went way up and I averaged a 4.7 in both semesters of junior year, (all A+'s), I havent gotten anything below an A- since the end of freshman year and the I’ve only gotten 4 A-'s out of all 25 classes (total sum of classes soph-sen year) I’ve taken, everything else has been an A or A+

The first semester of freshman year, I came into school only a couple months after my brothers attempted suicide, and my whole family was going through a rough patch where we fought all the time. It caused me to try drastically to seek social acceptance and i ended up not doing as well as I had hoped.

Even if my counselor writes that in her statement, will a couple B’s drastically affect my chances of getting into my dream school, Yale

@m4xw3ll please answer this question before anything, WHY do you want to go to Yale? Answer that. I want to go to Cornell for its top-class education in my interests. Small class sizes, and its wide selection of courses, I am undecided in terms of my major, so I need a university with a wide array of courses.

Furthermore, I just realized that your ECs are not as good as I said they were. They are terrific in the sense of leadership. However, your ECs should be an extension of your passion. My case, I LOVE math, so I started a math circles in my community. I don’t really know your passion. In the summer, you did the engineering thins, but you also did a liberal arts thing, what do you want to do? Were you experimenting? If so then that is ok.

If your GPA is 3.91 and you are top 10% you will be fine, DW about that, grades are not everything. IMO, ECs are the most important. That’s because in my case, I got my leadership skills and future essay topic through my ECs. Remember, we make our impacts on our communities through our ECs, that is what some people go to Uni. to do and we are doing it in high school. So if you don’t get in, don’t think your life is over.

I think you have a great shot! You seem very well qualified.

Chance me please @ http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1660239-cornell-college-of-arts-and-sciences-chance-me.html#latest

@manas1997‌ I want to be an engineer so that is where my engineering programs come from. I want to go to Yale because of its engineering program. I know that there are many good schools that are specialized in engineering, but out of every school I looked at, it was Yale’s engineering program that intrigued me the most and really stuck to me.

The bulk of my EC’s consist of service. I too love math and really want to help out my community, both geographical and racial because some people just need that one person to help them get that drive to move forward, so I started a math tutoring program there. Like I said too, I also do tutor in reading at that same school. I guess I just have a deep involvement in my culture, and I really want to do something, and make an impact both in my school, which is why i made the newsletter about black alumni, and my neighborhood (which unfortunately is vastly more than anything anyone does in African-American club at my school). The other things I’m in just interest me, but I’m not as passionate about those as I am my service.

Thanks for giving me that perspective tho! I should have put my truly passionate activities and highlighted them.

@m4xw3ll last word of advice of I may. Some people are just too focused on getting into college, I used to be like that, but now I realized that certain things that I thought about doing, such as being president of student council, was just for university. Unfortunately that happens here in Canada too. Don’t aim for a piece of paper with a fancy name, aim for excellence. Make change or make change, just remember that. Good Luck!

Chance me for Cornell, beware, low ACT score, will be taking SAT.
