Chance me please!

Cumulative GPA: 3.6
SAT Writing: 550
SAT Math: 670
SAT CR: 540
Total SAT: 1760
I go to a very prestigious, well-known high school that is actually located on the Pitt campus. My father actually works for UPMC as a surgeon. One of his co-workers wrote me an outstanding letter of recommendation. Another one of my letters came from my AP biology teacher, a man who is very well known for his rigorous teaching. My final letter of recommendation came from a man who lead one of the volunteer services that I am involved in.
This year (senior year), I am taking AP Biology, Honors Men of Faith (a special religion class), Honors Trigonometry/Precalculus, World Literature, Honors Spanish IV and Honors Biotechnology/Bioengineering. I am involved in several volunteer activities, some of which are affiliated with UPMC. This includes volunteering on the Transport team of UPMC Children's Hospital, where my dad works.
I had a 3.5 GPA Freshman year, a 3.25 Sophomore year (due to a rare low C in algebra II) and a 3.9 Junior year.
I applied yesterday!
Please let me know what you think my chances are, as I really am lost. I have looked at collegeboard and many other websites and really just want to hear from someone directly what they think of my chances.
If you have any questions, please just let me know.
Thanks!

I think that you have a chance. I was in a somewhat similar position as you with lower test scores than others who were admitted and I ended up being accepted after a request for new fall test scores.
If I had to guess, you would probably either receive a request for additional test scores or mid year grades before being accepted. My scores were pretty close to yours when they sent me a request for additional test scores. But you may be accepted, it’s very hard to predict. I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you very much! When did you apply?

I applied on June 20th with the special status application and was told in mid-September that they were waiting for my fall test score. I finally received my acceptance letter yesterday!

Yeah, Chelsea!!! i was about to answer this thread and saw your response!!! :-bd

cory, i agree wiht Chelsea. i think you will be asked for additional info. However, i think u will eventually get in. Eventually could be as late as March or April so don’t give up. Retest between now and then and keep ur grades up. also, make a call about whether you would score better on the ACT or SAT for future tests, take the test you expect to do better on, and diligently prep. given that your dad is tied into upmc and who gave your recs, my guess is those factors will help as well. when prepping, focus on math and CR for the SAT and math and English(chelsea, correct me if i’m wrong on the ACt part) as those are teh subtests Pitt focuses on teh most. and cory, since your stats look to be on teh low side for pitt(your test scores def are, not sure on GPA but i think it is too), make sure you apply to one safety school just in case.

@ctl987‌ is correct! Pitt primarily focuses on the SAT Critical Reading & SAT Math, and the ACT English and ACT Math. I’m pretty sure they review the Writing sections of both tests but not quite as much as the ones listed above.
Also, Pitt’s average weighted GPA is a 3.97 and 72% of students have a 3.75 or above (4.0 scale). Your current scores mostly fall in the bottom 25% where they currently stand. I would definitely suggest studying to retake either the SAT/ACT and improving your GPA.
