[ *] Essays: Should be pretty ok. Talk about bioengineering, speech team, my perspective as someone who brings a love for collaboration and intellectual stimulation/exploration/discovery, and why rice is about research opportunities and why research is important to me, and the environment and how it will help me grow as a person and intellectual (pretty standard essays I think)
[ *] Teacher Recs: AP Chem teacher- probably pretty okay, APUSH teacher (probably a bit subpar, probably talks about stuff on resume)
[ *] Counselor Rec: Probably not very good, barely knows me

[ *] School Type: Public
[ *] Ethnicity: Indian

[ *] major strength/weakness: ECs? Idk.
[ *] Other Factors/questions: How bad is the lower SAT second time? The 690 CR as highest CR? Chances in general w/ subjectives?

Just send the ACT.

The recs seems a little suspect

Class rank and GPA is good

Your stats put you in range to get in. Apply and good luck!

I thought I had to send all scores, right?

Don’t worry. My daughter, who is now a junior at Rice had SAT scores below yours and her ACT scores were in a much higher percentile than her SAT scores. She sent in SAT and ACT scores. Her 2 subject scores were very similar to yours. Her friend had SAT scores a little higher than yours and her ACT score was the same as yours. She is a sophomore at Rice. Rice looks at everything. Concentrate on making the rest of your application as strong as possible.

If you have not sent in your SAT scores, you can send in the ACT scores alone. You just can’t hide any SAT scores if you send those in (according to how I read the instructions). ACT scores alone will be sufficient. My #2 daughter sent in her ACT score only (no subject test scores) and she, too was accepted.

Either way, I don’t think you should be too concerned.

This. If you send one SAT, you must send all. However you can only send your ACT

Thank you so much! I will definitely make sure I get the essays as good as possible!

Wow.
Your academics, testing, GPA, are great.
I read your list of ECs and I was amazed of how long the list was. Excellent leadership positions in sports and academic clubs.

At this point in the academic process, the greatest advice given to me was to focus on the things you DO have. Don’t worry about what you don’t have. So, work on those essays. That means extreme revisions and edits, teachers, peers, family. I can take just a couple days to write an okay essay. After a month of revision, an essay can go from okay to great.

Although those teacher recs may be sub par or par, don’t worry. Worry on what you do have, what you can change - Essays.

Good luck!

Thanks so much @Kokko2k15!
