I'm a Korean international student studying at a private, independent school in America. It, however, isn't a fancy, well-known boarding school. I've been studying abroad for about 9 years now as a homestay student and I'm lucky enough that I CAN pay for school.
I'm applying to: Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Brown, Michigan, WashU, Emory, Penn State, UMichigan, UIUC, NYU.

SAT: 2240
GPA: 3.93/4,52
Rank: School doesn't rank but I'm top 10% out of 65 students
Extra Curriculars:

Debate: Team Captain, IE Captain, lots of regional awards

Arts Conservatory Progrm (Theater): VP

Children's Home Society: President, VP

Student Gov: Treasurer, Class Rep.

Job at Flower Shop

Spanish Club: Treasurer, Class Rep. (two years)

Spanish Competition: 2nd in state, lots of regional award

Are my chances realistic? I'm a girl and I know that being an international student already
decreases my chances by ALOT...

I'm gonna have a total of 3 B's: 2 from sophomore year, 1 from this senior year
And my essays are pretty decent I would say.

Thank you so much!!!

oh BTW
my SAT IIs: Math II 730, USH 750

Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Brown, Michigan: reaches(ECs are weak)
WashU, Emory, NYU: low reach or high match
Penn State: low match
UIUC: match

Good thing you can pay for colleges. That helps a lot.

Is “arts conservatory program” just a club or a selective program? Can you elaborate on regional awards?

@paul2752 Sorry, I’ll elaborate more on my ECs.

Cum Laude Society (top 10%)

Spanish Honor Society

NHS’

National Forensic League (Debate)

International Thespian League (Acting)

Arts Conservatory Program: it’s a college prepatory art program that selectively admits people. I’m VP for it’s theatre department.

Debate: 3 Years, about 8 Awards, all first places in regional competitions for oral interpretation and public forum debate

For theater: about 5 major lead roles in musicals and large productions

For thespians: superiors in various categories for competitions

- Also volunteer for set construction for the past years & used to help teach an acting class for a non profit

If you play around your theater activity, you have have a bit better chances.

You might also want to put SMU. It has a good acting program.

thank you so much! @paul2752
quick question, do you think having 3B’s will affect my chances a lot? The ones from sophomore year are because my of some family death.

3Bs for ALL four years aren’t bad as long as you kept up working during Junior, which it seems you did
