My ACT score was a 28

I go to a nationally ranked public high school with a very competitive and academically oriented student body.

I’ve took 3 AP classes junior year

2 years as a member of NTHS, currently club president.

Active member of my church youth group.
4 years member of the social justice academy.

I’ve already been accepted at High Point University.

@bedtimetea Okay, sorry if I sounded a little condescending, it’s because my gpa is in a similar situation, but even with 8 AP’s and full honors courses, the gap isn’t quite 0.85. I realize it’s probably because electives like orchestra closened the gap a little. Even then, I’d say UNC-CH is still somewhat of a reach just because your unweighted is on the lower side. It does depend on the school you are in right now though.

@alicksmeow I’ve taken harder classes and made Bs in a quite a few of them but those classes were APs so still factor in as a 5 for my weighted GPA. Also I go to a nationally ranked school that’s very rigorous academically and UNC knows this. Besides NCSSM my school has one of the highest accpetance rates into UNC. About 100 people from my school end up at UNC each year because of the name and in-state tuition and even more get in but end up somewhere else. That being said, I’m not sure if I have what it takes to get in though.

@bedtimetea I think you have a good chance tbh, it was just that the previous commenter said it was a match, but the average stats are slightly above what you display. Good luck though! (I’m kind of in the same boat with the Bs and the GPA haha)

I do not have a clue about American or Richmond but NC State is a lock and UNC-CH looks promising.

Your stats and ECs look very good for NC State and in the good range for Carolina.

If you applied EA for NC State you should be hearing from them very soon. I do not see how you would not be accepted there. Great school if they have what you intend to study.

Being in-state will help with both schools. UNC’s acceptance rate for in-state applicants is approximately 50% and your stats look fine. Your SAT scores are above the median for those accepted. Your ECs are strong and your school being recognized as a top feeder school will help too. As mentioned, unweighted GPA is a bit low and your weighted score would look better if it was >4.5.

However, Carolina really is about the entire application package rather than just the numbers. Hopefully your essays are strong and give them a glimpse of what you have to offer the school. Also, strong recommendations help.

Just in case you didn’t know NC State has made their decision for everyone who applied EA last night. So if you haven’t already seen it I’m sure you have been accepted with those stats.

And you could almost definitely get into American University, if you look at a scatterplot of their scores you’re over the median! Also, they accept a higher percentage of applicants in comparison to UNC and Richmond.
