Hi. I am in my junior year, and I am really starting to stress about my admission.
It would be great if you people could chance me and advise me based on the colleges I plan to apply, listed below?!

Looking at 3 categories:

  1. Reach: Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia, Princeton, Cornell, UC Berkeley
  2. Match: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Purdue, Georgia Tech, UCLA, UCSD, Duke, UMich, UT Austin
  3. Safety: University of Maryland, Virginia Tech, Rutgers

(Please tell me if I am looking at universities too high/low)

General Info:
Nationality: Indian (I live in India too)
School Type: (1.2k kids pass out every year)
Major: Computer Science

Standardized Tests:

  2. SAT Subject Tests: Maths Level 2: 800, Physics Level 2: 800
  3. AP Examinations: Calculus BC: 5, Computer Science A: 5, Physics C, Mechanics: 5
  4. TOEFL : 120

GPA: (This Worries Me!)
Freshman: CGPA - 8.0/10
Sophomore: CGPA - 9.2/10
Junior Year: Mid Term: 68%, Final Term: 95%.
Senior Year: Mid Term 97% (Predicted)

EC’s:

  1. 100+ Hours Social Service
  2. Won 10+ Inter School Computer Science Symposium(s)
  3. Trinity Guildhall, Grade 4 Guitar
  4. Blog with 50k hits
  5. Students Council (2 Years, Predicted President in Senior Year)
  6. Energy Conservation Awareness in School
  7. Intern at Flipkart (India’s Amazon)

Note: Financial Aid / Fees is not an issue.

You are definitely a competitive applicant.
Your university classification is also correct.

However, your GPA will be your Achille’s Heel. Can your counselor explain it in her LOR? It needs some justification, else will be dangerous.

Your junior year will definitely raise a red flag. The improvement is too drastic to be believable in usual circumstances. You will have to tell your counselor to explain this somehow.

Overall, a very competitive applicant. Frankly speaking, I think you are already admitted to GeorgiaTech, UIUC, Purdue and ofcourse, all the safeties :stuck_out_tongue: . Just an opinion, exceptions may occur, but very rare.
