I’m also a '19 hopeful, so my answer will be a tad bit opinionated.

Quick questions: ED2 or RegularDec.? Grades include senior midyear? How many hours of community service? Geographical location? Arts or Science major? Ethnicity (not a big factor, but gives a slight edge)? SAT subscore breakdown? ACT? SAT 2? How does your high school rate (well-know, in the ghetto, etc)? Financial situation?

I think we both have a very similar chance of getting in (if you’re also doing RD): (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/lehigh-university/1723258-lehigh-ed2-chances.html#latest)

Pros:

  1. Average/Above-Average SAT score (CR + Math more important)
  2. Sports (track)
  3. Leadership (girl scouts, tutoring, museum thing)
  4. NAHS
  5. Other extracurriculars
  6. Large high school class (means no skewed/weird class rank and other stuff)

Cons:

  1. Record number of Bucknell applicants (lower the already low 29% acceptance rate from 2012 or 13): http://www.wboy.com/story/27986792/bucknell-university-receives-record-number-of-applications
  2. Classrank is a tad bit low, unless it’s a “good” school (I’m also 14%)
  3. Not a lot of APs, unless your school doesn’t offer many (mine offers 15+)
  4. If you’re doing Regular Decision, don’t expect >50% of getting in (like me) because of #1 con.

Basically (not trying to sound rude), you have a very good chance of getting in ED2 (http://inlikeme.com/admission-statistics-acceptance-rates-early-vs-regular/) (other schools have big difference btw ED and ED2, but bucknell is a small school, so it should be about the same), but if you’re applying RD, don’t expect to be accepted right off the bat (might be waitlisted).

@indubitableDan I’m regular decision. Yes my grades include senior midyear report. I did at least 150 hours but no more than 170. PA. Science major, undecided. My second choice major is engineering, civil. I’m Bengali (something like indian). Yeah I took chem and math 1 sat 2’s. Got a 620 in chem and a 670 in math subject tests. As for SAT’s, 690 M 600 CR and 670 W. My school’s large, about 4000 students. It’s better known for negative reasons so yeah it’s a bit ghetto. And yeah I qualify for financial aid.

My school offers a lot of AP’s and i’m just taking 2. Thanks for your help man, no offense taken.

No prob, I know a little too much about college admissions because I procrastinated with college admissions and…you know. Anyways, this article I read says that someone like you (smart kid from an iffy) has a slight edge in admissions: http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/blog/private-vs-public-hs/ (5th paragraph) (you’re lucky, 4 or 5 people in my class of 420 mostly over privileged kids got a 2400 on SAT). With the extra info I think you have a really good chance of getting in. A 600 on CR ain’t that bad since >20% is useless vocab, and Bucknell has a more holistic admissions (lib. arts), which will forgive if you get good grades/tutoring/etc. Hopefully someone more professional will give you a more accurate answer. Best of luck with your college stuff!!!
