Demographics: -Male half white-asian (vietnamese), incoming senior, Michigan, small rural private school.

Academics:

-SAT:1450/1600, (730CR,720Math), 21/24 Writing.

-ACT: 33

-No SAT II(will take)

-Class rank:Probably top 1%

-GPA: 3.98 UW.

-Coursework: Took most challenging possible courseload all 3 years. AP Calc BC (5) (Self-studied), AP Chemistry (4), AP Comparative Government (4), AP US History (3), AP Psychology (5)

Extracurriculars and Awards:

-2 years Track and Field. 4xAll-conference, 5xAll-region, 3xAll-State in track&field as a sprinter. Member of state-champion 4x200 relay team. Academic all-state. Member of Vietnam junior national team.

-2 years Varsity Baseball. Academic all-district and all-region, District Reional champion.

-2 years Model UN. Named Honorable mention delegate twice at MUNUC.

-1 year Science Olympiad (Current school doesn’t have a team): Member of team that placed first regionally, second-state wide, and ninth nationally. Medaled in anatomy.

-NHS: 2 years. Some volunteer work every month, amount varies.

-Summer lab assistant at Vietnam National Institute for Genetics. (Helped primarily with imaging and electrophoresis, did some PCR work too, primarily for lab experience)

-3-month long Intern at National Biotechnology institute, (for more lab experience)

-Volunteer at local hospital: 12 hours a week, primarily working at the gift shop.

-2xQuiz bowl member: Captain and Voted team MVP.

-AP Scholar with Distinction.

Misc.:

-Fluent in three languages.

GPA is fine, but your test scores are a little worrying. I would aim for at least a 1500 and a 34. Class rank and ECs are also at or above par for JHU, but unless you raise those test scores, your chances decrease exponentially. If you can find a way to really stress your research experience and raise your scores, you’ll have a pretty god chance. Are you ED? Also, do you plan on being recruited? It seems like track could give you a couple bonus points.

I disagree with vrhou98. Your SAT/ACT scores are within the IQR for Hopkins - though they are on the low end. You can retake the SAT/ACT if you want, but to me your current scores aren’t particularly “worrying”.

On paper you seem like a competitive applicant. However, Hopkins admission rate is dropping every year and the school is a reach for anyone.
