Chance me please!

I go to a rigorous private school. It’s ranked as the #2 private school in my state. It has a funky schedule, so I’ll try to explain it as best I could.

Because the school is so small, we only have a select choice of AP classes. The school only has 5 classes per semester, including the free period that 90% of students take. The first AP class you can possible take is sophomore year, so the weighted GPA is dropped. There is also a policy that there is a maximum of 3 AP classes per year, unless you study one of the AP classes independently. Anyways, here are my stats:

Weighted GPA: 4.04
Unweighted GPA: 3.9 (I calculated this myself because the school doesn’t report the unweighted GPA)
SAT out of 1600: 1500 (770 Math, 730 Reading & Writing)
ACT: Taking in September
SAT II Subject Tests: Biology, and Math Level II (Taking in August)
School does not rank

Academic Honors:
Honor Society
National Society of High School Scholars (the school isn’t a member of the National Honor Society)
National Spanish Exam award recipient (Gold last year, Silver this year)

Extracurriculars:
Science Olympiad Co-president (Rocks and Minerals, Microbe Mission)
Math Club (AMC)
Varsity Tennis Co-captain
Table Tennis member
Youth Group member of local mosque
Muslim-American Society Member
Volunteer at local hospital
Shadowing at local hospital

AP Scores: Biology - 4
Psychology - 5

Junior Year Classes:
Honors Precalculus
AP Biology
AP Psychology

Senior Year Classes:
AP United States History
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus AB (school does not offer BC)

Ethnicity: White (Middle Eastern)
Income: High Income family
Gender: Male

And I’m not sure if this helps, but both of the teachers that I have asked for recommendations have their PhDs

I am applying to Ohio State, University of Michigan, Case Western, New York University, Tulane, and Northwestern.

Thanks!

I think you have a chance for sure in all those universities. Maybe chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/2005601-how-can-i-have-an-actual-chance-please-enter.html#latest

Your scores are pretty good for those schools and as long as you do well on your subject tests, you’ll probably get some money from a few of those schools as well. I like your chances of getting into most of them

I think that Ohio is a match/safety, UMich is a match, case is a match, NYU is a match, Tulane I think is a match but I’ve had weird experience with Tulane. Knew a girl who was denied at Tulane EA and then got into Harvard RD. Northwestern seems like a match as well.

If you apply ED to Northwestern, then you have a very good shot. Northwestern accepts about half their class ED, so definetly try to do that. All the others schools are matches!

Congratulations on your wonderful achievement to date. Your stats make you competitive at all of those schools. As thalaya alluded to, research Tulane carefully, as the school really emphasizes an applicant’s level of interest, knowledge and enthusiasm for it. Tulane is proud of its high quality of life and "happy students"distinctions, so it is willing to take a small hit on stats in order to have people who will contribute positively to that atmosphere. IImportantly, community service in New Orleans is an integral part of the educational experience so they look for people with strong ECs in community service. A penchant for an interdisciplinary approach to your education is something the committee looks very favorably at, in addition to an interest in foreign languages and international studies. Best of luck to you! (Not that you need any of it. You are going to wind up somewhere great in any event!)

I live in Ann Arbor and both my parents are professors at Michigan so I can tell you that you would have a very good chance of getting into Michigan if u were in state. Out of state your chances would be lower. Either way, I think it would be wise if you emphasized the fact that you are Muslim. Mich recruitment is heavily diversity based (they were the defendant in the supreme court case that banned affirmative action). I don’t know about the other schools but you definitely have a good chance at Michigan. Good luck on your applications.

If you get a 30 or above on the ACT I think you’ll have a good chance as all of these schools. All you can do is write good essays and hope for the best. These schools are all selective so it is a matter of luck.

Northwestern will most likely be a target/reach for you. You should apply ED to Northwestern since it is much more selective than the other colleges you want to go to. As for the other colleges, if you have good essays I have no doubt you will be able to get into. If anything, you could aim higher than these schools.
