Future Activities -

  • I’m thinking about starting a political outreach club, to join together students all around the political spectrum to foster structured and productive debate
  • Applied to internships involving my interests, hoping to hear back soon
  • Applying for a paid job at a retirement home near me
  • Hoping to get involved with Girl State/other forms of political involvement
  • I don’t have many service hours comparatively, so I’m working on that

Recommendations: I have great relationships with the teachers I’m going to ask. Hopefully some good stories and personal qualities would be shared.

Other info

  • I’m a fan of learning languages; besides my Spanish class, I can speak conversational German and Korean basics

I’d like to know what my chances would be to where I’m thinking about applying, if they’re a stretch or something.
1st Northwestern (I’d be doing early decison)
2nd Princeton
3rd Duke
4th Chapel Hill (Legacy)
5th Vanderbilt
6th Washington University
7th Emory
8th Columbia

Your stats are great. Your ECs are great. You have a list of reaches where you have a reasonable chance for most of them. However, I expect that you know that you can’t count on most of them (I don’t personally know much about Vanderbilt nor Emory). Thus make sure that you also have matches and safeties.

You also should find out what your budget is and run the NPC on all of the schools that you apply to. A salary around about $150k puts you into the awkward range where need based aid is limited, but being full pay is very tough.

Of course, given that you are in-state for UNC Chapel Hill, that is a really great choice. One of my good friends was from there when I was a graduate student.
