Common app essay: leadership skills as House Staff Manager - think it’s very good

UMich Essays: communities essay: very good - talk about Venezuelan culture and how I bring it into Spanish Club

Activities essay: pretty good - talk about what I do in CTeen and how I want to do Chabad on Campus at Mich

Why LSA/Ross essay: could be better; I didn’t know we could talk about UMich as a whole so I basically only talked about it from an academic standpoint so I think this is my weak point!!! very scared ab this part. i talk about LSA, Weinberg cog sci, and Ross and how they are fit to my interests/strengths/perfect for me, but do not mention michigan’s culture. i responded to the question, but i found out ppl use this to write ab michigan as a whole, which i didn’t do!!

Recs should be pretty good i submitted 3 teacher recs all knew me well

sushirito pls give me your evaluation

@sushiritto

@saltypretzel First, the acceptance rate for OOS students is about 19%. And in terms of student population at UMich, New York has the most OOS attending. IL is 2nd, CA is 3rd. But we don’t how many apps come from NY. Anyway, OOS admission is tough.

Second, your Ross app will be a more portfolio-based decision. If you don’t know already, you can be accepted to LSA and rejected by Ross, so prepare for that possibility too.

Can you equate your unweighted GPA to a 4.0 scale? That’s what UMich does and that’s how students (and parents) here have posted them in the past.

Wow, that’s a long diverse list of EC’s, WAY longer than my kids, that’s for sure. And course rigor, which is very important to UMich, appears great. And at least as a parent, speaking/reading/writing multiple languages is a wonderful attribute. What we can’t see are your essays and recommendations and those are important to UMich.

The median uwGPA and ACT score for the Class of 2023 was 3.9 and 32-35. Since EA stats were hard to come by, based on the deferred pool stats, an OOS student with an uwGPA of 3.9+ and 32+ will have a good chance of being accepted to LSA, but may have to wait until RD decisions are released in February and March.

Best of luck to you and please post your results and stats in the EA thread, when they’re released before Xmas.

Even though you didn’t ask… Lol, I think your a very complete and competent student. Very interesting mix. Don’t worry about the essays and what “others” do. To set yourself apart you “want” to be different. That’s a plus not a minus. Michigan has one of the most active Hillels and Chabads anywhere. Free Shabbat dinners with hundreds of your closest friends. Holidays are an event there and fun.

Being OOS is always a hard get. Be prepared to be deferred since it seems to be the norm but don’t let up. Doing well senior year is important to Michigan.

Good Luck.

@sushiritto @Knowsstuff thank u both u have calmed my nerves at least a little bit!
