As you can see by my user name, I'm an idealist. I'm applying to UW-Madison, Minnesota-Twin Cities (borderline safety), Dartmouth, William and Mary, Macalester, and NYU. I also got into Northland College as a super-safety.

Chance me:

GPA: 3.4 (25 out of 90), no weighted grades, super small school, but pretty competitive grade wise, my senior grades are very good though so far..

EC's: Senior Class President
Forensics (24/25, Silver State Medalist)
7 High School Theatre Productions
SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions)
Editor of School Newspaper
Varsity Cross Country Letter

Awards and stuff: Honor Roll
High Honor Roll
Student of the Month

Who's Who Among American High School Students nominee

I wouldnt call it a big safety with your GPA. As i've said many times, for god sakes, take Who's Who Among American High School Students off. It's total BS.

Yeah, I know.. My friend at Minnesota couldn't believe it, either.. I guess I'm slightly below the average GPA, but not my too much.. Plus my ACT and EC's make up for it, I'd think.

Nobody should ever bank on CLA as a safety school. They see right through that. A 3.4, while above average, is not what the U is looking for. Also the 25 in science on your ACT did not help you. It is not absurd to get waitlisted at CLA. Your GPA is way below qualifying for the U, and this result should be a good indicator of what to expect from Madison, Macalester, and a lot of your other schools.

Wow your stats aren't much worse than mine and I got a full ride to Carlson. I had 10 AP classes though. If your curriculum wasn't difficult then I can understand why they weren't impressed by the 3.4.

wow banker, I'm jealous of your full ride...Did they notify you right away in your acceptance letter?
I think I'm deserving of some scholarship money from Carlson, but being out of state will definitely hurt my chances.

4.0/4.0 unweighted..no Bs (yet)....4.2 or something weighted. 30 ACT. Ranked #1 in small parochial school..took the toughest courses offered...Varsity sports, Math club as ECs. - South Dakota

Good to hear banker...that just made my night

The letter I received said I'd be notified by March at the latest for scholarships, but it seemed like an eternity to wait since most other schools have already given me scholarships... hopefully I'll get something in a few weeks
