Schools:(I think most are reaches, but I just wanted to get another opinion)

Stanford
MIT
UC Berkeley
Carnegie Melon
Cornell
Harvard
Cal Tech

Your initial assessment of your chances is correct.

Stanford - Reach
MIT - Reach
UC Berkeley - High Match/Match
Carnegie Melon - Match
Cornell - High Match/Low Reach
Harvard - Reach
Cal Tech - Reach

Your strong SAT scores and the Afro-American URM (Under Represented Minority) thing will help your chances, but your relatively low GPA (low, that is, for the schools you have listed), is going to hurt. You'd really help yourself if you could get your GPA up into the 3.8 range.

You should also take a look at some good, but somewhat less selective schools with good Comp Sci or Physics programs. Here's a few you might want to consider:

University of Michigan
Case Western Reserve
Georgia Institute of Technology
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Rochester Institute of Technology

These are just the few that came quickly to mind. There's many more, of course.

You also might want to consider schools with good Honors programs that offer lots of scholarship money to good students. Penn State, University of Florida, University of Maryland, and University of Pittsburgh are examples. Given your stats and URM status, you might be able to get a full scholarship to any of these schools.

Also, at berkeley and stanford, or whatever schools dis-regard your freshman year when recalculating your GPA I would have a 3.79. What about Rice? Thanks guys.

I think you have a very good chance at most of these colleges considering your strong SATI scores. However, I do recommend improving your GPA a little and maybe working on you SATIIs? In a nutshell, though, you would be a very good applicant for most of these colleges.
Good Luck!

I think you have an excellent chance at getting into your schools. Remember, you are a junior so you still have time. You can definately concentrate on bringing your gpa up for when you get ready to apply in senior year. If you can bring your gpa up some i think you'll have an excellent chance at getting into your schools. I agree that you are a wonderful candidate and I definately think your stats and being a URM will get you where you are looking to go. Just focus on your classes and you'll be set!

Im mainly interested in Stanford, Berkeley, and CMU beacuse of their Comp Sci programs. Does anyone know the average GPAs for incoming freshman their. Is a 3.8 high enough if I can raise my SAT score to 2300 plus. Thanks so much guys.
