-VP of class 4 years
-12 seasons of xc/track
-NHS

-about 45 hours of random community service

slight reach i'd say. work on your SATs and take a competitive curriculum senior year. They do the hollistic approach and you will stick out with your musical talents. Write amazing essays, and I'd say you have a 60 percent shot.

I would say it is quite a match... c'mon people, alot of my friends (10-15) got in with around 1200 (Math +Cri) SAT, and they are all international students, which should be harder to get in nOOS. If they can get in with that that score, metfan2121 would have a good chance. Just improve your SAT to be safe.

well im not really sure what i got on the SAT seeing as i took them yesterday, but my previous practice tests had me over 2000.

as for a rigorous schedule, lets just say i haven't had lunch in my schedule for 3 years of high school, and my senior course load is 38 out of a possible 40 credits.

My daughter had 2130 Sat, 3.9 GPA, 9 years of piano, 6 years of ballet countless APs including 5's in French Language and French Lit, etc. She was deferred then waitlisted. Hate to say this but unless you have something else up your sleeves, you have little chance. No offense meant. But hey, miracles do happen.

its not just the fact that the SATs are below the average because they are in the ballpark. what theyll need to see with your app is a true love for a certain activity, ability in tougher classes (good grades in APs), and a strong positive comparison against your classmates

I really love reading these "chance me" threads but it ends up being so random. Over the weekend a career center lady told me that UVa recalculate GPA based on core subjects, and does not take resume stuff into consideration. Her position was everybody played a sport, was NHS, and has community service, so unless you did something spectacular, it is a wash. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

To be honest, you are a reach, unless you have something else that makes you above everyone else in a certain area. UVa is pushing hard to diversify and with the increased numbers of minorities and international students applying your chances for admission are greatly reduced. My s had 32 ACT and 2150 SAT and didn't get in. Great rec's, top 10% of class, x/c and track, etc. OOS is a crap shoot. But Good Luck and Do APPLY.

Wow Trey1105 you have me worried. My son is in state with stats that look like your son. Full IB diploma, outstanding resume. UVa has always been his first choice but I find myself cautioning him a lot about the crap shoot that is UVa Admissions. Being in state helps but we are in NoVa which hurts. I hate to discourage my s but...

Although UVA will no longer offer ED, IMO, it's best to apply as soon as the applications are available and get all your info (i.e.,scores/recommendations) in on time. A decent essay helps alot, too. Some colleges track "demonstrated interest", so tour the campus and stay overnight, if possible. (Vistany, your son sounds more than eligible! Good luck!)

Thanks for the encouragement LBP. My s checked the "demonstrated interest" issue. Dean Blackburn told the person who inquired on my son's behalf that they do not track students prior to the submission of an application. Regarding dropping ED, some people think it will return after the 07/08 admissions cycle. Won't do anything for my s but I thought it was a foolish idea to begin with.
