That’s only a few of my ECs from my resume, what do u guys think, any advice or comments is helpful, Thanks!

Ive been studyin nonstop for my sats this june so I hope they go up signifciantly

Omar, I'm from Pakistan as well (moved here when I was around 8).....Heres a few things I have to say about your profile:

NJ--definitely an overrepresented demographic origin at Georgetown, that may work against you.

Are you applying for the NHS or the College? I'm in the NHS for Human Sci / Premed (class of 2011).

Work on your SAT's/AP's (though it seems like you are already planning to retake)

Great EC's! You seem very well rounded; perfect for Georgetown!
Over 31% of Georgetown's entering '06 class was either Val or Sal so I say you have a great shot.

I'm sure you've considered Johns Hopkins as well, but I hope you pick Georgetown over JHU :)

and of course, we need more Paki's at Georgetown!

haha thats so weird cuz i am considering hopkins too, my sister is going to be a freshman there next year.

btw, I live in PA, NOT NJ, if thats what u meant

and what do u mean by NHS or the College?? whatever u do for premed i guess..

anyways the question on legacy,, is that legit??

anyone else? thanks alot

rofl. What was I thinking? Now that I reread your post, nowhere does it say NJ. :D......my bad.

warning: please don't be offended by next statement :D....It is generally stereotypical for a high achieving indo-paki pre-med pursuing high schooler in the US to pursue Hopkins, and I don't blame him/her; It's an amazing school for just that, premed. However, I think Georgetown has alot more to offer just in case you choose to broaden your academic focus in college. Also Georgetown students generally don't embrace the notorious cutthroat nature in pre-med studies at JHU. They both have a ~90% matriculation rate into med school.

Aside from Hoya praise, let me clear one thing up. :D NHS is the School of Nursing and Health Studies in Georgetown. As you may know, Georgetown is divided into four schools: School of Foreign Service, McDonough Business, the College, and the NHS. I suggest you glance at the different majors in each school before applying to Georgetown. (and yes, on the app, you are not only applying to Georgetown, but also to the specific school within).

As I said, I'm doing the Human Science major with premed emphasis. Check it out. http://nhs.georgetown.edu/humanscience/dept.html

Legacy: Having a cousin or an uncle in Georgetown will not help boost your application (unless your uncle is feeding millions into some Gtown fund).

Good luck, and get started on apps early! I ended up sending my Georgetown app late, but then again, I AM the physical embodiment of procrastination. :D

haha thanks.

well my cousin is at georgetown and she is havin a rough time studyin premed. she told me and also i heard in CC that the premed prgoram at gtown is not the greatest and elsewhere, such as JHU and Cornell, is much better.. is that true??

also, Im plannin to apply EA to gtown and boston university, do u think that will help better my chances since im applyin EA?? thanks

I'm pretty sure JHU sends the most kids to med school (I don't know if that's raw total or a percent).

hmm i heard its second to harvard but maybe..

anyways, any more comments and suggestions on my chances? thanks

bumpskiski

EA to georgetown will actually not help your chances...the admission rate is the same and the SAT averages are actually higher....

really? well i think i will anyways cuz thats my EA, plus i think hopefuly my SATs will rise after this june one, knock on wood

i disagree with the notion that applying early action is not beneficial

you have the chance to stand out in a much smaller pool preliminarily, and if deferred you get a second shot at being admitted

plus if it is your first choice you can learn of your decision in december as opposed to april (makes for a much less stressful senior year if you are accepted)

Paul.. I tend to agree with you. Kind of wondering why many more kids don't apply EA ?

yea thanks guys im def applyin EA who knows maybe luck will be on my side and alot of pressure would be lifted off me for the rest of senior year

the only reason not to apply EA is if you want to apply somewhere else under a binding ED program (or if you are applying to a school that has SCEA)....otherwise, i can't think of any

georgetown doesn't allow you to apply to a school under a binding ED admissions policy as if you are admitted you will not be able to choose georgetown (not very fair to admit people who are unable to attend due to an ED acceptance, while there are others in the pool who are committed to attending that might have been accepted)

if you apply single choice early action somewhere else...then that's your single EA

so whats the exact name of the gtown EA policy?

what other solid colleges can i apply to then while applyin to gtown EA also??

bc? yale?

no to yale
yes to bc

i applied to bc, university of chicago, notre dame, and villanova early action
in addition to georgetown ea
