Chance Me Please

Hey guys, I am looking at Penn State as my safety school, but I was wondering what my chances are for Schreyer's. As of now, a Schreyer's acceptance (which is probably unlikely) couldn't deter me from UMich, but just in case a situation were to arise that would require me to stay close to home, the cost and quality of Schreyer's would be hard to turn down.

anyway here is my info...

gpa: 3.88 uw
sat: 2120 best sitting (700 670 750), 2160 combined (700 710 750)

major ec's-- student govt, mock trial captain, french club president, jv baseball, involved with school plays, involved with frosh orientation

awards-- 2 gold medals and a bronze in national latin exam, silver medal in national french exam, and more importantly, best witness statewide in mock trial competition (team finished 2nd out of 281 teams)

class load: I'll graduate with 5 AP's (my school offers 8, but I hate science...I got a 4 in latin jr year, and am taking 4 more sr year) and 5 of about 7 possible honors courses. (also my school doesn't rank, but I'm around top 5-10%)

-100 hours community service
-legacy...mother '76, but i doubt schreyer's cares about that
-in state

thanks for reading...

You have a shot - but there's no guarantee. Unlike general PSU admissions,
Schreyer's evaluation process is NOT formulaic. I have a son at Schreyer. It's becoming more competitive to get in each year. A number of top students at my son's high school didn't make it this year. Only one attended (rejected from an Ivy).
IMO, the honors program makes already strong majors stronger. Eng, Business, Sciences are excellent. It's less of an advantage for most liberal arts majors. Great perks though and it gets you more attention, smaller classes and money. Good luck!

A word of advice... visit and make your presence known. I went onto campus a few times the summer before I applied and met with Schreyer people each time. Send them thank you notes and make sure that you let them know that there's a person (namely you) behind all those extracurriculars and numbers.

Worked for me.

Also- Do the optional essay and the optional recommendation.
