Chance me please...

lol I think Duke is probably out of my reach but anyway...

GPA : 4.05 out of 5.0 weighted (pretty bad I know, that's like top 18%ish in my HS although our school does not rank, I'm not very good at my humanities classes. But my grades show a very strong upward trend)

SAT: M:800, CR:660, WR: 690

SAT II's : Math Level II: 800, Chemistry: 800

AP's: BC Calculus-5, Chemistry-5, Statistics-5

EC/Awards:
-two time USAMO qualifier (AMC12: 129, AIME: 9)
-ARML participant (scored a 7 out of 8 in the 2006 ARML, which is like top 50ish that year?)
- AMC school winner/high scorer
- 3rd in my state math competition this year
- member of school math team
- random volunteering (60+ hours) for local non-profit organizations

Should I even apply?

advice from a duke student:

if you are not in the top 10% of your class and are not a recruited athelete - you should consider not applying.

consider BC as a fit, georgetown/hopkins/northwestern/cornell as reaches

advice from another duke student:

i was not in the top 10% of my (albeit competitive) high school class and was not a recruited athlete, got in RD just fine. but it is a reach.

Nice job on ARML.. as someone who has participated in it throughout high school.. I have to say 7 out of 8 is 'Holy crap, you are awesome at math!'.

You should definitely apply to Duke!

I can't say whether you will get in or not.. but your math ECs will definitely help you out!

Best of luck next year! The things which may hurt you are sub-700 CR & WR scores and class rank but besides that... chances pretty good!
