bump bump bump

please, at least one?

im not sure what u wrote to them about ur GPA, but it doens't seem too low...if you have a good reason for it i'm sure its ok. is it unweighted?

Your standarized test scores are OK, but would it help raise your SAT score if you should consider retaking it for regular decision and stuff? (i'm not sure if it's too late?)

if you've taken the most rigorous courseload in ur school, they wouldn't penalize you for not having the 56243543085 AP classes that some people have.

your ECs sound nice though. do you have leadership positions for some of them? lots of volunteer work + initiative is good. what math awards did u get? did u take the AMC/AIME/USAMO series? your ECs aren't going to get you in by themselves, tho, obviously.

i don't know about stanford, but the others you'll probably be fine for. write a good essay and get good recommendations!

I hate to say this, but your ECs are not that rare. I thought I had pretty crazy stuff, but I saw other peoples' stuff... I hate to drop this on you, but the grades are on the weaker side and the ECs are just okay (like mine. I don't have much more than you do). UCSD you're in, but the others... er... yeah... need higher scores...

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/414298-chances-stanford-ea.html

-the 3.85 is UW and the 4.3 is weighted, this is including 9th grade though which is where most of the dip was. My GPA for 10th and 11th is about 4.5 Weighted with just academics.

yea the AMC awards are the ones we took

Yes, I founded a few of the things I participate in and I lead the ones I participate in the most and the recs will definitely convey this.

thanks!

lol, some colleges actually recalculate ur GPA w/out ur freshman year. so this should help, too!
and what AMC awards did u get?

Yes, it definitely should.
Our school doesn't do national ranks or anything when they announce it to us but I got 2nd Place every time offered at our school (out of the high school)
The girl who got first place is already at college, she skipped senior year.

I know lots of people do research now but hopefully my recs will beef it up, research is extremely rare at my high school, there are only a few of us and we had to be interviewed etc. And the robotics essay is very strong. I guess it is down to luck.

From what I have seen, crazy GPA and test scores don't do much, it is always the "what else" factor....

That is unfortunate, I thought that the Robotics and Junior Classical League founding/ leading/ starting camps etc. was pretty rare, and I thought the research would add a bit too.

My GPA from 10th and 11th is much higher, I think around a 4.5 weighted (it doesn't get any higher with the courses offered at our school).

No one has a 4.0 at our school, it's impossible.

I know the test scores are weak, but from what I've seen, high stats don't do much anymore.

bump bump bump

anyone..??

I don't think your SATs will impress Stanford, Wash U, or Penn, but luckily as a CA resident you have a shot at Berkeley. As well as the others on your list.

Please don't take offense at what I am about to say.

Your SAT score is below average for a majority of the schools you are applying to; you should have a tleast a 2200. Your SAT IIs are rather low as well. Your APs are okay, but only two won't have a big impact.

You seem to be involved in yoru school and community. However, your extracurriculars are neither rare nor strong. Compare to your grades, however, they are much better. You should talk a little about what you learned at the leadership summit/conferences in your essays. Just the fact that you were in them doesn't get you anywhere.

Awards are average, unless you have truly national awards, they won't make a difference.

I think you'll be able to get into the last three of your schools. Stanford is a huge reach, Emory, Wash U and U Penn are rather hard for you to get into.

Good luck!

Stanford, UPenn, and Wash seem like reaches since your stats are a little low, in the context of extremely prestigious schools. The extra curriculars are good, and you never know what they're looking for in any given class, and maybe the robotics thing will really fill a niche. You might want to consider applying to a few more UCs.
By the way, do you mind if I ask what school you go to and if they go to Latin Convention? The CJCL thing caught my eye, as I'm at Peninsula High's Latin Club and pretty much kick ass at Certamen. :) Anyway, it's always nice to find a fellow classics-enthusiast.

You're right that colleges will be looking at the "what else" factors, but those things are usually coupled with high stats.

I think you have good chances at WashU, Emory, the UCs, and Claremont though.
