well Technically, The UC’s don’t look at race and my school gets people to these schools with 1500-1700’s SAT, Asian and White, so my test scores coming from my school are very good…in addition ec’s and essays are stellar so I’d still say if White or Asian, my chances would be very similar to what they are now.

Oh please. That’s what they say but it’s not how it works.

“My ancestors were enslaved 150 years ago, I deserve to go to college even though I’m not qualified” is a great pity card. “I’m so poor, I can’t afford a magical tutor - like all those rich kids - to boost my SAT 600 points” is also pretty damn good.

MR. Tubbz just take advantage of the fact that you’re URM.

Where’s the affirmative action for descendants of the victims of the Chinese Exclusion Act of the 1800s?

Maybe for lower UCs, but definitely not for UCSD, UCLA, and Berkeley

I don’t think chances would be the same -

These are chances for me:
UCLA: Slight Reach (in state), Reach (out of state)
UCD/UCI: Match (in state and OOS)
UCSD: Match (in state), High Match (OOS)
UCSD: Match (in state), Slight Reach (out of state)
UCI/UCD: Safe Match (in state), Match (out of state)

These are chances for you:
UCB/UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safe Match

Please don’t tell me that my being asian doesn’t change anything.

@flopsy: Where’s the affirmative action for poor asians that came with almost no money..dad wouldn’t cut his hair for months.

Anyways…a question for OOS.

What is generally considered “match” for OOS? I searched in the UCLA 2010 forum and someone said about 3.9 to 4.0 UC GPA and 2100 SAT is considered match for OOS. Has that standard gone up since then? I know I’m a reach but I want to set a realistic SAT score goal for myself since it’s the last chance I can improve my chance of getting accepted.

Fellow CC viewer

Ok, look at your CR score, and your SAT 2 scores, then look at mine

What’s the API ranking for your school? Mine is program Improvement, making my scores even more remarkable

Secondly compare ec’s and awards - there is none franky

Futhermore, I doubt you have a life story or essay like this:

Bcuz I’ve attended school in America for only 4 years, i focused more on my academics in high school (i had to start from CP Algebra1 and work my way up to Calc. BC…etc) and learning my new language. Thus, i lacked the time and opportunities to be involved in more E.Cs. Because of this, i also was not able to take H’s and AP’s in my fresh. soph. yr. (cannot enroll in regular CP classes cuz i did not meet the language requirement), but took and succeeded in those courses later on in my junior year.

UCLA: Match

@ MR. tubbz

Granted, you do have a story regarding your family situation. But my point was, if you were an asian/caucasain, you probably wouldn’t be a match at UCB/UCLA (and UCSD wouldn’t be a safe match) with a 28 ACT (around 1866 SAT).

If you read carefully, my last point was

I still disagree, me and the val at my school have the exact same ACT score…UCLA’s ACT average is around 28 and I’m an ELC student- as I’ve said my school’s IB program does not preparte you for tests average is a 24 and these students go to UCLA and UCB, white and Asian

And a 28 ACT is the 93 percentile…and the 93 percentile of the SAT is higher than an 1866 ( I got a 1890 on the SAT and i was told my 28 was better)

In addition, if you look at my ACT scores you see where my strengths lie , and my SAT scores

UCLA is a match schoool- my stats alone demonstrate that

couple in my essay+life story+ extra ciriculars and you’d see that UCLA is a match regardless of race

In my opinion the fact that you’re out of state hurts you with your stats , come on Berekley is 42% Asian

[Eligibility Index and ACT to SAT 1 Conversion Table](http://www.ucsd.edu/catalog/front/ACTtoSAT.html)

Don’t forget the average SAT score means that some people get in below that average. Last 2 years a lot of kids from D’s high school that achieved 2400 in one sitting and applied to UCLA. That definitely boost UCLA average score. These kids did not attend UCLA.

I also know a kid whose both parents are surgeon, barely broke the 2000 ceiling, even after taking it twice with SAT prep class. He ended up taking the ACT.

what about if i had applied engineering?
