I retook the ACT in Feb 2008, but I’m not sure if UCLA will take the scores. Either way, I sent the scores to UCLA: 31 (33M, 30Eng, 29Sci, 33Read).

UC Essays: Very Strong, English AP has taught me how to write well.

I took the most rigorous schedule possible at my high school. I will graduate with 8 Honors, 8 APs, and 2 Junior College classes.

I did 1 sport every season in high school: Cross Country in Summer/Fall, Soccer in Winter, Tennis in Spring. 4 years/varsity letter in each sport. Also captain of the soccer team.

Several Clubs, but main ones were Computer Club (President and Founder), Indian Club (Coordinator of Events), and Key Club (volunteered two hours a week for every week since freshman year).

I also have held several jobs while in high school, working at first as a tutor, then as a computer repairman for an architectural agency, and then as a computer salesman at the local Best Buy. Only for a few months out of my high school career was I unemployed.

I was asked by UCLA to complete the supplement.I was asked to write 2 essays and submit my schedule/grades for senior year. For the first essay, I described my involvement within Computer Club and how it changed from talking about technology to teaching students about technology, and how I founded and led the club. For the second topic, I explained how my uncle had been diagnosed with leukemia at the beginning of junior year and how I had to drive several hours to take care of his children and house in the middle of the week for several weeks. This brought my Junior Year GPA down drastically and is the main contributor to my low GPA. I had a 3.67 unweighted Sophomore year and a 2.83 unweighted Junior year.

My Schedule for Senior year is:

English 12 AP (First Semester - B)
US Government AP (First Semester - A)
Econ (Micro and Macro) AP (First Semester - A)
European History AP (First Semester - A)
Mechanical Drawing (First Semester - B)

I also take classes at the local Community College. First Semester I took Calculus (got a B) and I am about to start Physics for second semester.

Chances?

^Slight Reach. Your chances lie with how “good” your supplement was (in abbreviation 'cause virtually everyone here seems to have OUTSTANDING essays >_>)

hmmm, well honestly, my supplemental essay wasnt as good as the essays i wrote for the actual application. but what do u think with the change with my first semester grades?

Hi! I applied as a transfer to the musical theater department, so I’m not sure how harshly theater applicants are judged compared to other majors. I know they said that our audition was a huge part of the process though, and the minimum GPA to transfer into the major is a 3.2. I guess I’m just looking to see that if the theater department decided they wanted me, if I would clear the general school’s academic requirements. Also, I’d like to apologize in advance for how long this is going to be…high school info + college info = a huge post.

Also, I forgot to say that I will be done with all of my GE’s before I transfer. Thanks!

I want to say a match, given your audition went well. GPA isn’t weighted as heavily in the arts school than letters and science (i’m in music dept).

hey ok so does it matter if i get like 1-2 B’s my second semster of senior year? i mean.. i already signed the contract. sorry.. it’s just that i’ve never gotten a b. i know.. lame!

oh yeah and since 10,000 people more applied, it means itll e harder to get into the school, right? ugh.

^How did you already sign the contract? And no, 2 Bs won’t affect you at all.

oh, i word it bad. i meant by the time they receive my second semester grades, I will already have signed the housing contract*.

The housing contract won’t be affected by the provisional contract terms, unless you get rescinded, in which case you would’ve lost your $30 deposit anyways. 2 Bs will not get your rescinded.

Can anyone explain the difference between a UC weighted GPA and just a weighted GPA? Is the only difference that it includes 9th grade and 1st semester of 12th??

thanks, peppers.
also. do you know how the decision process works? like.. do they gather all the people wo applied to a certain UC, like UCLA, from my school and compare people? or when i submitted my application, does it just go in that order?
