how does someone get over a 4.2 UC GPA? isn’t there a cap?

it’s very possible. 8 semesters of addt’l honors credit are allowed. I believe I had a 4.36? Mind you, UC GPA takes into account sophomore and junior years.

Also, UCLA and UCB don’t seem to follow the traditional UC GPA, in that they consider uncapped GPA as well.

forgottenhawk,

Slight reach

Thanks UCLAri! I’m going to guess my GPA is probably my biggest issue? I have a couple other less noteworthy ECs (NHS, Piano, Chinese school). Should these be included in the application?

Oh, and is the slight reach based upon my current SAT scores or projected SAT scores? Or is this factor not important enough to make a difference?

Any other opinions?

And thanks again!

definitely include those in your app. i think you’re a match. i know plenty of friends who got in with your stats, and others with less who also got in. getting your sat score up definitely helps ^^ but yeah, you should be okay if you’re applying to L&S

asian out of state

Also helped a girl in a regular math class move up to an acclerated one. lol
tutured a kid from Korea by talking to him on the phone every week.

jjjjjj89, I think you’re a slight reach OOS. If you’re were in-state you’d probably be a match, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you got in OOS.

You only took 2 AP tests? Does that mean you’ve only had 2 AP courses?

In that case Kenshin, here’s a couple things that I left out.

-National Honors Society (12) Senior only club; competitive application process
-Chinese School (pre-HS, 9,10,11,12)
-CSF (10,11)
-Piano (5 years)
-Published in school lit. mag and Tao House Anthology (local organization dedicated to keeping the spirit of famous playwright Eugene O’Neill’s works alive)

Not sure if this counts for anything, but I’ve interviewed former SF Chronicle Washington Correspondent Marc Sandalow for journalism before. Guess it might be something I’d include elsewhere on the application.

If only it mattered that I intend to major in English and that I’m an Asian Male. Haha. Oh well. I’m thinking my personal statements are coming out pretty well. Thanks for chancing me!
