Chance Me, Please!

Wondering What you Think My Chances Are:

GPA: 3.95 (weighted), probably around a 3.75 uw
Rank: NA
SAT: 1400 or 2120 (CR- 750, M- 650, W- 720)
SAT II: US History- 690, Lit- 650
School: Attend a pretty competitive private Catholic school
AP: Junior Year: US History- 4, US Lit- 4
Senior Year: U.S Gov, Comparative Gov, British Lit

EC’s: Very politically active. Work for a political activist group, founded political activist group at my school; Editor of School Newspaper; Captain, Mock Trial (won state championship twice, competed in national tournament twice); Captain Model United Nations; Captain, Model Congress; Coordinator, program at Red Cross helping elderly use computers and email; Board Member, local Red Cross chapter;

Recs: Several good ones: one from my AP Lit teacher, didn’t read it; another from AP U.S. teacher, saying I am “one of the best public speakers in the country,” and “competitive for the nation’s top universities”; another from my boss at the political organization; a final one from the interim executive director of the red cross chapter

Essay: CommonApp about how living in NH has revealed to me my passion in politics; Johnson scholarship essay, I discussed Social Security

Interview: Went well, told me I reminded him of himself when he was my age; only problem--I had to drive from NH to Boston on a Wed night and I got stuck in gridlock traffic and I was 30 min late. Yikes!

I applied RD from NH. What are my chances?

None - in response to the Patriots perfect season, which does not get along well with the honor system (see: spygate), W&L has decided to no longer accept students from New England. Sorry

Seriously though, none of us are admissions officers here. Your GPA is pretty good, so are your scores and EC's but not exactly mindblowing (no offense, but unless you've cured cancer it's hard to really stand out these days) - just get your apps done and off the best you can, keep in touch with the schools to show your interest and wait until april to get results. Best of luck!

Yea, New England has a difficult time with W&L...I also attend a Catholic HS, so I doubt that will help much either. It appears that you have had experience with W&L admissions?

collegebound:

to get an idea of your chances compare yourself to the regular decision admit rate provided in the W&L website. If I recall correctly, the last year posted indicates a 27% rate for RD. That's a tough percentage.
If W&L is your first choice make sure Admissions knows it. If there are any other factors that can add to your app make sure you've provided it--any contributions you can make to the school to enhance school life?
From your stats, it looks like your right in the 50% to slightly above in the profile of last year's class.
Did you send a written thank you for the interview? if not, a belated one can't hurt and may even help get your app some additional attention.

yea, i sent a thank you to my interviewer, if that's what you mean?

yes, that's what I mean.

keep in mind that kids get accepted to Yale and get rejected by W&L (I know of several).

good luck. if it's meant to be, it will happen.

I just noticed I phrased that 27% incorrectly. That's the combined admission rate of EDs and RD. I checked out the w&l website and all the prior year data info in the institutional section isn't provided anymore--probably due to that declaration most of the LACs signed. IIRC, the RD rate is around 10% not 27%.

common data set is back up.

for 2006-07

ed apps: 537
ed admits: 370

rd and ed apps: 4215
rd and ed admits: 1158
