ehighmark 2443, whats wrong with "animal protection club"? Someone could do an infinity of things with that? Ever read any Peter Singer?
I think the OPs stats are jsut fine

good work narcissa ur stats are great! hope you get in

Narcissa, Oh dear!... what do you do for fun? Do you have down time? Bored-out-of-your-mind time? Daydreaming time? Time to be creative? To be spontaneous? To travel? To be silly with your friends? Hang out with family? To be curious? Get your hands dirty? To make a lot of mistakes?
I hope so, and I hope you are engaged with 'life' and not so bound up with college preparation as your schedule seems to indicate. Yale will like your grades for sure, but the college looks at people from a non-academic standpoint too, and dare I say even, 'especially'. If you know you are more than that 'Asian' stereotype, others referred to, think about her, talk about her in your essay. I was browsing and saw your post. I don't mean to single you out (there are many on this site who have similar stats) nor I am saying you 'don't have a life', but even for a senior, that schedule...wow. Scary.

nah im a junior.

a lot more than in would seem =]

I know you are a junior...that's why it's so scary ...

You have a great chance at a lot of colleges and there are very few flaws in your application. The only factor working against you would be that you are Female Asian. If I was to read this without reading the gender and race I would know what kind of person I was reading about. You have the task of fighting off the hundreds of other Asian Girls who have a very similar application.

haha im too asian, i know.

Don't you wish that colleges didn't care what race you were?

altho i wouldn't want 60% of my class to be asian. the competition would just be too cutthroat, and nobody would want to do anyting besides study >.<

I understand, but I really think that it shouldn't matter. I think that admissions officers are capable of figuring out which students have lives and which students study 24/7. I don't think race should be as huge of a factor as it is.

Sometimes, financial situations (someone living in extreme poverty who is still able to succeed and prosper) should be taken into consideration, but only in extreme-ish cases.

Narcissa wrote:

"the classes are pretty hard and the school is like the best in NJ."

Too bad I go to the best school in New Jersey. >< What school do you go to?

lol.
not like on whatever US news rankings.
but in math and science we always place first in the state...most of the time.
and we have the highest AP average in the state.
so i guess it depends on how you rank the schools.

narcissa, can i be your lucius?

'scuse me?

OH NO!!!!!

you didn't pick up on my harry potter reference!!!!!
reject from: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, UPenn, Caltech, MIT... you may still have a chance at brown

OMG! i thoughhht that was what it was! i didn't want to sound weird tho =)

you seem pretty amazing... :D
but with Yale you never know. the person who got in my school was super smart, but other people who were as smart didn't get in with higher SATs, stronger extracurriculars, etc.

just concentrate on your junior year, it's important, and don't worry.

Yeah. You have to watch out now cause you're a junior and the # of applicants will undoubtedly go up a lot next year.

narcissa- your stats are AMAZING! and your ECs are really really strong too.

I know how you feel though about the no focus thing. And in my opinion, yale isn't necessarily looking for someone who knows exactly what they want to do. Its good that you've tried different activities and a sign that your well-rounded. Don't leave any of them off!

With this assortment of activities, however, you must be careful on your app. BE SURE to emphasize that each activity was important...not just a title. I dont know exactly how you do that but I tried to do so by selecting teachers to write recs who know me very well and would probably mention the activities. Also I attached a short resume of additional activities. Most importantly, really try to have your essays show the non-academic side of you (which you clearly have). If you can do that...I definitely see you getting in!

Good luck! And I don't know if anything I have said is worth listening to...just an opinion. You're a great candidate, regardless, and will get in somewhere great!
