Chance me please

Hi guys! I'm a rising senior at an average high school in California. Please chance me :) Thanks in advance!

GPA: 4.0 UW ;4.5 W
SAT I : 790 Math, 750 CR, 770 Writing (2310 total)
SAT II: 770 Math Level II, 800 Bio, 800 Writing
Class rank: top 5 out of 710

Significant EC's (the amount of time I've been doing them is projected to include senior year):

School newspaper, 3 years (Editor next year, writer for sophomore and junior years)

School swim team, 4 years (1 year JV, 2 years varsity, tryouts for next year aren't until spring)

Club swim team, 4 years

Interact Club, 4 years (vice president next year)

French Club, 4 years (president junior year and for next year)

Volunteer at local nursing home, approximately 350 hours total

Jobs at Costco and the above nursing home

^ Those are my main EC's, but I'm also a member of National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation.

4 AP classes altogether taken so far (most that my school offers for the grades I've completed).

AP classes next year: English Literature, Calculus BC, Biology, Spanish Language, and Government.

Hook: None.
Income: 160,000 or so, but we live in an area where living costs are very high (typical California, lol).

Prospective major: Biology (haven't decided on a specific field yet)/premed

List of colleges:

Reaches:

Northwestern

Stanford

UC Berkeley

UCLA

Matches:

UCSD

University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

Safeties:
* UC Irvine or UC Davis; haven't decided yet.

Please give me input on whether or not I should change a school's "ranking" (whether it's a reach, match, or safety). I am also willing to change/add some (I won't go beyond 9-10 schools though, that's too much for me to handle).

Criteria: urban/suburban setting (preferably not rural); not dominated by Greek life; more than 5,000 undergrads total; known for high med school acceptance rates; would be able to offer me financial aid; great academic opportunities; good for Bio majors.

Thank you!

Bump… anyone?

Reaches:

 • Northwestern
 • Stanford

Matches:

 • UC Berkeley
 • UCLA
 • UCSD
 • University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

Safeties:

 • UC Irvine or UC Davis; haven’t decided yet.

I’d say you could aim higher like HYP? You have a great chance at all the schools you’ve listed with the exception of Stanford.

Thanks, Xcellerator  Could you please tell me why Stanford would be hard?

I didn’t say Stanford would be hard…I’d probably say Stanford/Northwestern would be matches as well…maybe low reaches.

You have as good a chance as anybody for those schools. You should really be looking at some Ivies as well. (:

kk, I’ll research some of them. Thanks for the advice! Anyone else?

IN for all but stanford

stanford is a reach

good chance for lower ivies, but reach for HYP

kk.

Bump… more input would be really appreciated :)

Bump again… anyone? (Sorry if the bumping thing annoys people, but I would really like some more feedback).

Bumpity bump bump.

I disagree with all but Stanford. Even for Stanford you have a great shot. Dont sell yourself short.

Thanks, CCFanatic; I’ll remember that when I’m writing my essays :)

Any other opinions?

Bump (10 chars).

lol! We have almost the exact same ECs…

You’ll probably be accepted to the UCs, Northwestern, and Michigan. Dunno about Stanford, though. (No one knows what goes on in the minds of the Stanford adcoms when they’re reviewing 20,000 applications). You have a good chance, but don’t forget that 2009 is going to be the hardest year yet for applicants since there are going to be so many of them, all applying to the best schools.
