-Work with mentally and physically disabled children through a program run by my county during the summer (a summer camp) and during the school year on weekends. These children have disorders ranging from asperger syndrome, autism, severe autism, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, and serious birth defects resulting in paralysis and mental retardation. I change diapers, feed kids (those that cannot feed themselves), etc. and I also lifeguard for them when we go to the pool each day. I have even dealt with seizures in and out of the water. (I'm writing my main essay on this and want to drive home that it isn't leading autistic children around on a horse, but really working hard to interact and connect with these children.) (6 hours/Mon-Fri/6 weeks during the summer and 6 hours/Saturdays during the school year)

<p>Extra (academic):
-Very interested in neuroscience and I want to highlight it as it is the subject that I would like to study in college.</p>

<p>My core essay will be about my job (explained above) and will basically describe what a typical day is like with the kids, how I became interested in neuroscience, and why I plan to study it in college.</p>

<p>My AP Biology and AP English teacher have both agreed to write my recommendations.</p>

<p>My junior year I received straight A's in all of my AP classes and A+'s in all of my other classes (Advanced Math and Spanish). I received one B+ in high school from my 10th grade English teacher because of a ridiculous test she gave at the end of the year, but received an A in AP English the next year.</p>
